The cultural scene in New York is very progressive, resourceful, inventive, and highly global. I appreciate the city’s open-mindedness. It welcomes self-expression.

How did you get your start in blogging?
I started out as a fashion editor at a print magazine back in Los Angeles, after finishing graduate studies in both Communication and Fashion Merchandising. I blogged casually on the side during my first job, but it was after my husband and I moved to Boston for his job change, when I began to engage in it more rigorously. Shortly after that, it became a full-time gig.

The name of my blog Z Hours is inspired by one of my favorite movies, The Hours. There was a monologue about staying present that I loved, and the name is a reminder to myself to fully enjoy the creative process.

What are some of your main passions?
Definitely art and photography. I’m also a big advocate for reading, as I believe it helps to connect all the dots.

What is your favorite equipment, and locations, to shoot with?
I use a Nikon D800. I’m not exactly particular about locations, but rather lighting.

What are some tools you can’t live without?
Personally, the Adobe Creative Suite is mostly used. VSCOcam is also a great app for quick edits.

Where does most of your inspiration come from?
Instagram is a major source – almost all the major photographers and sources of fashion media are on it. There is also a good number of indie bookstores here in the city. They carry rare, fashion-forward copies. I like to swing by whenever I can.

Describe your personal style.
Directional, avant-garde, functional. I like things that are pensive.

Favorite color of the moment?
Red.

What are some of your favorite go-to designers?
There are so many. Some current ones are Yohji Yamamoto, Maison Margiela, Haider Ackermann, Comme Des Garcons and Balenciaga. Ssense, Barneys, Saks, net-a-porter, matchesfashion.com are some of the most frequented online stores. And then of course, I’ve always loved H&M!

What is your daily beauty routine?
I prefer a good and simple skincare routine. After washing my face with CeraVe foaming cleanser, I apply a few drops of Decorté Liposome Moisture Hydration Boosting Serum, followed by a moisturizer (usually by Avene or La Mer), and finally a Retin-A cream (via prescription) for nighttime, and an SPF during the day. So far, I’ve stayed with Avene and the La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream. Both are truly comforting.

What are your favorite things to do this time of year?
Spring is the perfect time to go to Smorgasburg, or any outdoor market. Go with friends and share the food – that’s part of the fun!

What do you love most about living in New York?
The cultural scene is progressive, resourceful, inventive, and highly global. I appreciate the city’s open-mindedness. It welcomes self-expression.

What are your top 3 must-do’s here?
I’m a foodie so I’m going to give you three must-try’s: The crepe cakes at Lady M, the cereal milk soft serve with cornflakes at Momofuku Milk Bar, and the DKA at Dominique Ansel. And yes, those are all sweets. So here’s a savory bonus: The Halal Guys food truck.

Anything unique about your life that you’d like to share?
I have a 9-month-old Frenchie named Butter. He is the baby of our house. My husband and I choose to do everything on our own to make sure he gets the best treatment.

Do you have any hidden talents?
Acting, competitive International Latin dancing, painting, and cooking. Long story short, I received formal trainings in all but the last one.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I’d like to explore more genres in the creative field such as film, and other forms of photography, in order to produce digital campaigns and editorials as an art director and photographer.

What’s on your watch-and-read list at the moment?
I just finished Mad Men and highly recommend it. I’m now watching Jane Erye the movie (2011) whenever I go pedal on the elliptical. And my bedtime read now is Gods and Kings by Dana Thomas.
