After an amazing collaboration with TONI&GUY for our New York Fashion Week party, we decided to link up with them again a few months later for a behind the scenes look into their Marina Del Rey studios and adjacent secret salon. Clean, modern, with pops of color on a black and white backdrop, the 2-story Southern California office (Venice Beach is only a 10-minute bike ride away) reflects a similar décor philosophy as the international salons themselves. TONI&GUY’s core USA team made us feel at home by giving us an all-inclusive tour, as well as a taste of their creative process, before hitting local favorite Café Gratitude for an über healthy afternoon lunch.

The TONI&GUY brand was founded over forty years ago by the Mascolo family. The brothers (Toni, Guy, Bruno and Anthony) adopted techniques to control highly textured hair from their father’s Italian salon practice and then proceeded to introduce England’s influence of precision cutting once in London. The process of Italian finishing, coupled with the ability to personalize hairstyles with precision cuts, is what continues to define the salon’s signature style of today. Since then, the company has evolved to include salon locations all over the world, multiple educational offerings, a hair product line (makers of the popular Bedhead and Catwalk brands) and an archive of some pretty awesome DIY hair tutorial videos.

Check out the photos below for shots of the company’s offices, its stylish team members and a TONI&GUY exclusive braided hair tutorial – specially made for those attending Glastonbury, Bestival or any one of the many exciting UK festivals taking place this season!

Even in the USA, the company doesn’t forget to pay homage to its British roots.

It’s apparent that Zak Mascolo, Creative Director of the Americas and scion of the original founders, inherited some major style genes. We found him wearing a crisp white shirt with an optical illusion grid-inspired pattern, paired with cuffed jeans, accented with a skinny tie and dark burgundy suede shoes.
