Just as the shows are being lined up for the tents at Lincoln Center, we’re spotlighting the most inspirational looks of our designer-loving members – from those sporting the fabulous Jeremy Scott and California girl Trina Turk to those who love the work of peasant-aristocrat Maison Martin Margiela and purveyor of practical beauty Jason Wu. We’ve also included a few hints on what to expect for their upcoming shows, as well as a brief rehash of last season’s line (just to make sure you’re all caught up)!

JEREMY SCOTT

Everyone seems to be talking about the “cool kids” nowadays, so in case you’re wondering what Jeremy Scott thinks – stay tuned. Word around the block says he’s replacing the usual “army of models” at his NYFW show with them and teaming up with Miley Cyrus (now an up-and-coming fashion it-girl) in order to do it. Until then, here’s who we think are the coolest kids for Jer.

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA

Maison Martin Margiela has always been known to find beauty in the world’s castoffs – making precious what was once tossed aside – from candy foil dresses and a balloon-made bustier to garments embroidered with leftover coins. Even when it came to last month’s haute couture shows alongside Dior and Chanel, Margiela’s “artisanal” collection dissented from the status quo. The piece of costume salvaged from a 1900’s-era Oriental party held by Parisian couturier Paul Poiret’s was sewn on in the “bricolage” tradition (or in other words, in the technique of a would-be outsider). As far as the brand has come from both his incredible talent and creative ingenuity, his calculated resistance to letting go of the outside reminds us that even the best are reluctant to rest on their laurels.

TRINA TURK

This season, Trina Turk’s cooking up something savory in the kitchen – literally. Hosted by Chef Seamus Mullen and CW by Corningware, the sunny SoCal brand will be inviting select guests to celebrate colorful and stylish entertaining with the designer post-show during New York Fashion Week. Inspired by a Pacific Coast Highway road trip, Trina stayed close to home last season with sailor-stripe nautical wear, 50s Hollywood-esque pop art florals, hippie sandals and garments harking back to the Charlie’s Angels girls of the 70s. We hear Malibu Barbie’s becoming a big deal again and with Mattel’s star product making a showing in the big city this season, we wonder if it’s something the designer will cruise in with this time around – top down of course!

JASON WU

What we get from Jason Wu can sometimes feel like a box of chocolates, but one thing’s for sure – he has female practicality down to a science. His collections are just as reliable as they are unpredictable. For Jason, it’s all about the craftsmanship, the comfort and the design – and beyond that, it’s always fun to see what he has up his sleeve next. Last season was dark and romantic, with nearly every single texture you can think of, and the one before was soft, angelic and light. Meanwhile, our members seem to favor the ones with a little bit of color.
