Flávia Desgranges van der Linden is an 24 year old photographer and blogger of Fashion Coolture from Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Flávia Desgranges van der Linden, I’m 24 and I live in Brazil.

I’m originally from Belo Horizonte (one of the largest cities of Brazil) and I lived there until 2003. Then I moved with my family to Criciúma and that’s where I live now; it’s not a big city but it’s a nice place to live and learn.

I graduated in law two years ago and right now I work in fashion and photography. This change of plans is just a consequence of my blog and the funny thing about it is I decided to have my own blog after I started posting on LOOKBOOK.nu, 'cause we (my partner Felipe Ornell and I) used to have so many pics to share that I felt like I had to do it. ^^

How did you first get interested in fashion and why is it important?

When I was younger I never really cared about fashion but then one day I met Felipe (my partner on my blog and my best friend) and he loves fashion and I love photography and we decided that we could work well together. Now my life is all about fashion and I feel like I have another great way to express myself besides photography.

What are your passions?

I love photography and some years ago I started a self portrait gallery at deviantART. It’s just the way I found to express myself 'cause I’m really shy and not good at all with words.

How do you describe the fashion scene in Criciúma compared to other major cities/fashion capitals?

Criciúma is not really a fashion city, you don’t see the latest trends in the streets or stores. I guess it’s just like most of the cities.

What do you love about living in Criciúma?

I like the fact that it’s a calm place and after all that’s the city that made me who I am, someone that I never thought I could be.

Top 3 places to visit in the Brazil:

I’d say Rio de Janeiro (don’t need to say the reason why!), São Paulo cause it’s an amazing city with so many things to do, see, buy, etc.; and Florianópolis with some beautiful beaches and a nice lifestyle.

Describe your personal style and its influences/inspiration.

I never really know how to describe my style and if you check my looks here you will totally understand me. I don’t have a specific style, I like to play with everything and try different things without that fear that something doesn’t fit my style.

Favorite designers and places to shop?

My favorite designers are Alexander McQueen and Ricardo Tisci, but back in reality my favourite places to shop are secondhand and online stores.

The first thing you look at in another person's outfit is:

I guess it’s the whole thing that matters to me, the combination between different pieces that work well together is a kind of art!

What do you skimp on?

My hair. I hate to cut it and do all of those things that girls are supposed to love; I like to do [them] all by myself.

What do you splurge on?

Shoes and jackets, I love both!

A fashion rule you always break:

I [studied] law for five years at university and right now I don’t really care about rules; for me fashion is all about freedom.

Errr…I don’t even know the fashion rules!

What do you think is the most recent notable trend to appear/reappear, and what are your thoughts on it?

Midi-length skirts and dresses! When I first saw them at the fashion shows I never thought they would be seen on streets, but they’re totally out there and some girls make them look adorable, even if I’m totally afraid of midi’s on me.

What is the most underrated item in menswear and womenswear?

Hats! I would love to see people wearing hats over here, they're so charming. I could fall in love for a boy with a top hat.

Your favorite colour(s) of the moment are:

Burgundy!

What is your next "must have" purchase?

A pair of black boots with some really high heels.

What is the ultimate showpiece in your closet?

A sequin blazer that I bought at a secondhand store. It’s like a piece of art!

Are there any fashion icons or famous people whose style you admire?

There are so many inspiring people, but I like specially “real people” all over the world in street style pictures.

What's on your iPod / bookshelf / DVD player at the moment?

Right now I can’t stop listening to Florence + the Machine and Queen and reading a book about Edward Hopper’s paintings.

What can't you live without?

Internet, music and my camera!

What is your personal favorite outfit on LOOKBOOK.nu by you, and by another member?

My favourite by me is probably Il était une fois 'cause I love the whole thing! And by another member I’d say PEACE IS FOR EVERYONE, PEACE IS FOR EVERYONE by Anna 'cause I adore her unique style!

Next place you want to travel to (and why):

London. I went there last year and it feels like home…I need to go back for a longer time.

In the year 2016 you will be:

I don’t have any idea! I don’t like to make plans for the future…my life is completely different from everything I could have thought and it couldn’t be better, so let’s see what happens.

What would you say to someone seeking fashion advice?

It’s really simple, just be yourself and try to have fun with your clothes!

The first name that comes to my mind is Alexander McQueen, he had that same “genius” thing and I know it’s different now but the brand still has the same great vision with Sarah Burton and for me it is the closest [thing] that represents Steve Jobs in fashion.
