OPEN LB PT. II
We'd like to announce that in response to your suggestions and feedback about opening up the site, we have made the following changes to our NEW page and LB FORUM:
1. New members and members with lower reputation will not have their looks included initially on the NEW page.
New members' and low-rep members' looks will be excluded from the NEW page when they are just posted, even when Karma Filter is off. For their looks to be visible on the NEW page, they must first build up their reputation/karma level. By requiring that new members' earn karma before they can get their looks on the NEW page, we ensure that users who have been around and earned karma will not have their looks buried too quickly by new members--who are much more likely to break the rules and/or post low quality photos. (We will address the ways a new user can get their look on the NEW page even with low or no reputation.)
2. New members will not be able to post on LB FORUM until they have been an active member for a period of time.
We believe that new members must be required to spend some time learning about the community, reading the forums, and getting the hang of the site before posting their own topics and comments. This will also help to deter trolls and prevent new members from posting forbidden or redundant topics.
--
You guys have expressed a lot of different reactions, understandably. We are listening and we want to make sure that all your questions and concerns are addressed one by one. Here are some of the most common issues you raised, and our responses below:
It was already hard to get noticed before. Now that the NEW page is flooded with looks from new users, it's going to be even harder!
If you've been an active member of the community and have an established reputation, rest assured that your look will not be buried too quickly by new members' looks. From now on new members' and low-rep members' looks won't be initially published on the NEW page. Members with low or no reputation will need to earn hype from community members in order to have their looks become visible (even with the Karma Filter off).
But I am a new member. How can I possibly get my look noticed if my look isn't even included on the NEW page at all?
There are many different ways that you can successfully promote your first look(s) and gain the few hypes you need you get your reputation up enough to be published on the NEW page.
1. Post a clear photo that shows your style at its best. Make a good first impression.
2. Follow the rules! If your first look is flagged, it will NEGATIVELY affect your reputation and make it difficult to recover.
3. Be active in the community. Give genuine feedback and compliments (beyond just "love it!") and hype/fan the people you like so that they will in turn scope out your profile and do the same. (NOTE: it is NOT considered cool to leave comments *asking* people to "check out your look" and "hype you back." This is unnecessary. If your comment is meaningful, making new friends won't be hard.)
4. Use our look and profile widgets to drive traffic to your look from your blog. Chances are if you have a fashion blog, some of your readers are probably LB members who can show you love.
5. Connect your account with Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr so that your friends who are on LB can stay updated with your recent looks and give you hype.
Everyone starts at 0 reputation and can successfully promote their look enough to earn the little hype needed to get published on the new page. Just remember: we know if you are cheating.
NOTE: Creating multiple accounts to hype yourself will not help.
I'm pretty sure LOOKBOOK.nu will get flooded by unwanted members: spammers, trollers, impostors, and offensive, rude, or obscene people in general.
Our community is full of volunteers who actively flag spammers and trolls and bring these types of issues to the attention of our moderators, who have the ability to ban users. We are aware that we will need to step up our security to keep these kinds of people out, but we have faith that there are enough awesome people watching over our community that honestly, it will be okay.
Forum is going to be filled with the same old tired topics from new users.
This is why we are now requiring new members to go through an extended period where they will not be able to post topics or replies in the forums. Our forums are intended for power users who understand what the community is about and know what types of topics are prohibited. Requiring new members to go through this waiting period is our way of deterring trolls and new members who are eager to post redundant, prohibited, offensive, or inappropriate posts in LB FORUM.
It took me long to apply and get my invite. It's unfair that anyone can join now!
That's exactly why we opened it up. It was taking way too long for moderators to go through our backed up applicants list and invite people who deserved to be invited. We feel that it's more fair now. Anyone can create an account and interact with (hype, comment, fan) the people that inspire them. And if they're up for it, they can also put their best foot forward and build up their own audience on LOOKBOOK.nu.
Does this mean LB will always crash?
Not at all. Fingers crossed, but we believe that our servers are in great shape and will be able to support the continued growth and development of our community!
What was wrong with letting people hype and comment via Twitter, Facebook, & Tumblr? Why does everyone need to become a full member?
We believe that everyone who is interested in fashion and photography should have the opportunity to inspire and be inspired by others on LOOKBOOK.nu. Our "connect" members who were previously logging in with Twitter, FB, etc. couldn't even "fan" their favorite users and get updated with new looks. They also couldn't have a profile to keep track of their hypes, much less post and document their daily looks. While we believe that to be featured in our gallery is a privilege that must be earned by reputation, everyone should have the right to be a part of the community.
LB was special because it was exclusive. Now it's going to be totally different and this sucks!
Actually, we believe that LB won't change very noticeably at all. We will still feature awe-inspiring looks from amazing people all over the world. We will still have a passionate community working hard to ensure that quality stays high and that the community is spam-free, safe and fun. We will have more members and more activity, but that just means that the talented people of LB will be able to grow their audiences and get more exposure for themselves, their blogs, and their work. We fully believe that giving everyone the opportunity to have a profile will make LB a more vibrant place.
Have we left something out? Please leave a comment and let us know!
UPDATE 8/29: Thanks for reading and hearing us out guys. Here's a few answers to some of the questions and concerns that were brought up by some of you in the comments:
What's the exact difference between "moderate" and "strict" on the Karma Filter?
Oops! Sorry we didn't address this earlier. The "moderate" setting is simply the old Karma Filter "on" setting, while "strict" is a new setting we added for those who feel that the Karma Filter needs to be more selective. On "strict" only looks which have been posted by high-rep members AND looks from all members that have gained significant hype will be shown.
Only having popular members on the NEW page is rather unfair. We all clearly love fashion...and we all deserve a right to be seen, new or old.
If we displayed looks by every single member on the NEW page, everyone would suffer from not getting seen! So many looks are now added that if the NEW page showed every single look posted, your look would be lucky to get a few glances before it got pushed down beyond the first page.
While we agree that every one deserves the chance to shine, having your look displayed on the NEW page of LOOKBOOK.nu--a gallery that is viewed by hundreds of thousands of people every day--is a privilege that needs to be earned, not a right that is just given away. Members who have proven themselves and worked hard to build up their reputation on the site deserve to be protected from getting pushed down the NEW page at an unreasonably fast rate by new members. Contrary to what some may think, it's not about "popularity." It's about inspiration. If your style can inspire others, you deserve more exposure. This is and has always been our simple belief.
I think the new changes to LB are really unfair. The NEW page is basically another HOT page. How is anyone supposed to get hypes if their new posts are not featured on the New Page?
As we already outlined, there are many ways you can promote yourself and your looks as a new member (without being too spammy and coming off as a "hype whore" by asking people to check out your looks on every single comment). Be active in the community. Fan people. Leave meaningful and specific compliments--or even constructive feedback and respectful opinions--on the looks you find interesting. Make friends with users who have been around longer and are more experienced. Promote your new LB profile and your new looks on your blog, Tumblr, and social networks by sharing or adding a LB widget. All of these are ways to connect with new and old LB members who could potentially give you karma and help build your reputation. Not only does this system reward people who genuinely want to be a part of the community, it also makes sure that obscene looks, fake (impostor) looks, and trolls are not automatically included in the LB gallery.
How much karma exactly do you need to get in order to be included on the NEW page?
Currently it only takes one hype from a member with a "trusted" reputation to make the look visible.
Now that anyone can join, I feel uncomfortable that [unwanted people] can join and look and comment at my looks.
You control your comments and can delete any of them. Also, if you see anyone acting suspicious, rude or hateful, just let us know by flagging and our moderators will take the appropriate actions.
Anindya S. @fioreblume
Good explanation. But still, I don't like it.
It's hard enough to get noticed and now it's getting much much much harder to get noticed.
And I just got my invite code a few weeks ago. :(
Christy E. @christyexclusiv
i agree :( i am so sad .
Lhizette C.
Nice post.
And to the elitists, don't get too furious. The fashion world doesn't revolve around you.
Christy E. @christyexclusiv
like.
Kaycee L.
Hmm, these improvements are actually great!
But as i've been a member for a while, I only have a few looks because of school and everything, I still think that this will make it a lot harder to be noticed.
But really nice job, I reckon a lot of people will be happy with these rules :)
Zanna V.
good post, this addressed everything I was concerned about :)
Jana L.
and what about new button "Like this on facebook" (under the photo)
I don´t understand the function of this..
can someone explain me it please?
Yuri L.
It's just a standard Facebook like button like you can see all over the internet. If you click Like it will show up on your Facebook stream that you liked that look or user!
Kasey M.
So does this affect the people who recently joined before you opened up? Because I've been here around a month and would not enjoy having to start over.
Ez S.
It appears LB is very serious about this transition. There are over 100 comments in a relatively short amount of time. Members DO CARE about LB! As I expected, LB is fine-tuning the system to ensure we get the pros but not the cons from the change. Thumbs up again!
Oliverio P.
inb4 50 comments in every look on the HOT page saying "Hey guys! I'm brand new and want to get noticed enough to be on the new/hot/w/e page so please HYPE and check me out!!"
Toni S.
This seems to be as best of a middle ground possible. I have high hopes for it personally :p
Amanda R.
Nice post, but I still think that LB has lost a bit of its exclusivity :(
And is going to be harder to get noticed!! ;A;
Adriana M. @adriana2222
Agree. but you are all lucky cuz u don't have to make every effort to be invited
Chris F. @heychrisfox
How long is the waiting period going to be for people joining the forums?
Tilly N.
It's 10 days, according to my account
Steph B.
I like this idea!
How can a user "successfully promote their look enough to earn the little hype" without saying "check out my loook pls!!" in comments though?
Jen O. C.
I almost always check out the profiles of people who become my fan, or who take the time to comment on my looks, EXCEPT if they leave comments like those. It makes me feel that they don't actually care about my style and are just hype-whoring, and I can't be bothered with that. I know a lot of other people who feel this same way, so leaving 'plz check out my looks' comments is pretty counterproductive, actually.
Steph B.
ah ok, yeah I can imagine how irritating receiving comments like the above can be! thanks for clearing this up.
Kar-Yan C.
I'm so glad you take the time and effort to respond to all our concerns, it means alot!
I'm liking these new improvements. Everything you've posted has addressed to my conerns and many others .
Thank you Yuri! :)
Twiggy T. @TwiggyTeeluck
I like it.
But I applied and got in last week and I've been having a nice time on the forums. Now I have to wait 10 days before I can post anything. -.-
Adriana M. @adriana2222
what? Why?
Twiggy T. @TwiggyTeeluck
They filtered me out as a "new" member because I only signed up last week.
This sucks. =(
Randi N.
ahh, i like it but it seems like if you haven't posted a look yet or you're new it's going to be REALLY hard to get hype :/
KIKO C.
it`s getting tough and harder yet challenging.
Charles Olivier W.
I'm a member since a little bit less than two months, and I posted only one look and got 11 hypes. Does it means that I will like a "new" member and I will be on the other page?
When I signed up two months ago, it was easy to enter in. I didn't get any invitation, on the site there were an other way to sign up, by sending a look to the administrators of the website, and I got in in three days or less.
I don't want to be on the page for new members, it's like it looks too hard to be on the normal page and get hypes. I'm sad :(
Charles Olivier W.
And I'm sure that most of members won't look at the page for new members, because they will be sure that they will be flooded by new members.
AMI M. @AMiBLy
I hyped your look! I hope that helps a bit...
Mireille M. @mireilleshop
I'm so sad i just started posting new looks after a long time and just have few hypes... Its to be harder to get hypes now....
Jacob B. @2DOSESADAY
I'm still not satisfied, I feel like before all of this lookbook was more simple. Before, I feel like lookbook was for more SINCERE fashion lovers because of the whole invitation concept. The exclusiveness of it is what made LOOKBOOK.NU....now its LOOKBOOK.NE1! (ANYONE).....What happened to the connect with tumblr, twitter, and facebook hypes. A lot of the fans from my website were asking me, that they didn't want to have to make a lookbook in order to help me (**yes it touched my heart** LOL) I'm just saying, the more simple lookbook (in my opinion)was better then this more complex one. Lets just see how this pans out....
Sid P.
I actually love the part about not asking others to "check out" your looks. At least the new members will have some respect and help stop the begging for hypes thats so pathetic.
Maya O.
Oh if only we could see the day when no-one asks/begs for hypes in different threads in forums as well as when commenting on someones look anymore..Oh, that would be the day (that unfortunately will never happen).... ;)
Olivia W. @oliviawilliams7
I'm just Happyand to be a memeber.
Camerin M. @McKinleySchell
I'm relatively new, but building up some karma. You talk about how to get hypes, but if it wont be featured in NEW, how do we expect others to see the look? Where will we be placed? How do we build up Karma if our looks aren't going to be seen? It seems sort of an endless circle we might not get out of, and we might remain hidden.
I like the idea of this all, but I think it will just further the issue of "hype inflation". People post great looks on here, but sometimes a person gets a ton of hypes because of their popularity - that look might not be good, but the rest have been and they have a huge fan base. And now there might be some fantastic looks out there that aren't going to be seen as much.
But I agree with Jacob, let's see how this pans out...
Camerin M. @McKinleySchell
Actually, now that I think about it, anyone also a member of chictopia.com? Anyone can join and you can go to the new page and see every outfit uploaded. However, there is also a style council which shows only looks by popular users who have built up the points.
If that's sort of what this new system means, then doesn't sound too much like a bad idea.
Lally Z.
Great point. Since there's the karma on/off option, I think there should be another stream just for new users.
Camerin M. @McKinleySchell
I'm open to what it might be but I'm just making an observation that that's what it is now. Some people may get an insane amount of hype for an ok outfit because they've become a popular contributor. I wouldn't say that's close minded.
But I agree it's not supposed to be about hype and such and it's supposed to be about inspiring, but sometimes that doesn't happen. (and the way they're making this now, i think, is in order to see a look and in order to see something inspiring, it now DOES need a decent amount of hype..) :/
Camerin M. @McKinleySchell
makes sense. i hope it does end up working that way
Coco J.
As an existing (although admittedly not always hugely active) member, I really would like to know what is the actual level of reputation / karma you need to achieve in order to appear on the 'New' page? Or would this not be an issue for existing members. I think new members might also like to know if there's an actual figure on this.
K. M.
i agree. i wish there was a solid number on that.
Milda S.
I feel like this point has not been raised/discussed:
As a 16 year old girl, I liked the idea that my looks would only be seen by people genuinely into fashion, hence the invitation system. Now that anyone can join, I feel uncomfortable that any creepy 40-year-old man can join and look and comment at my looks.
And I'm also interested in knowing what your average karma should be to allow you to be seen on the "moderate" karma page. I think mine's around 15 or something.
Ricardo T.
Errrm, I believe anyone was able to view all of the looks before and comment them too. The only thing they could not to is post looks, and participate in the forums.
Coco J.
YES, anyone could view the site previously regardless of membership. If you have these concerns (which is sensible as a 16yr old), you really need to consider protecting your privacy - don't use your real name, don't put the town where you live (or include anything in your images which would show this) and don't EVER agree to meet up with someone you've met only online - they might not be who they say they are (if you think they're genuine, at least bring an older friend or sibling and meet in pubic). Also, be aware of how any images you put up might be perceived and make sure nothing is too provocative. Sorry to sound like a mum, but this is a really important issue!
Jen O. C.
...because anyone over the age of thirty and on the internet MUST be a creep looking to prowl sixteen-year-old girls? What?
Anyway, looks and profiles were always viewable by the public so open membership doesn't change anything. If someone is making inappropriate remarks towards you or others, you can delete their comments or flag them.
Hernan Martin C.
What happens if little kids join the page? Cus now that everyone can join, i mean, i think we will see some "interesting" STUFF ¬¬ and jokes, etc etc ETC, fake people i dont know EVERYTHING! Lookbook was supposed to be exclusive not only because of the people they select, but because of the not allowed people too. I think that lookbook alredy loose the point why we all love it so much. I think that you guys are making a huge mistake. I understand that selecting people may be annoying, but that was the point of the page too. Dont say that this is "more fair now" cus it isnt. We loved lookbook in the first place because we knew that there where people behind it choosing, not computers allowing tons and tons of users.
Lini T. @LiniTrinh
i agree with you!!!
Weronika F.
i also agree! it was really hard to get a code. i got mine few weeks ago. and now LB is open paige. it wont be the same paige. hundreds of new members posting their looks will make big mess.
Oliverio P.
Wait, why don't y'all make a side category in the new page for brand new people? Like there's the filtered new page, the unfiltered new page, and then the newbie new page.
Coco J.
sounds like a really good idea! they should do this!
Chelsea F.
I feel that only having popular memebers on the new page is rather unfair. We all clearly love fashion and have a different point of veiw and we all deserve a right to be seen, new or old. And with the filter we can choose what we want to see, so I don't understand why we can't have the option to see all the looks.
Maya O.
Okey, there were really good points there, Yuri.
F.e. I like the fact that newbies cannot write to forums right away so that they have time to learn the rules etc so that they wont start hysterically posting the same old topics over and over again etc.
I´m just gonna wait and see what happens, if anything radical even will. Who knows...
Maya O.
Just one question about the karma filter:
what´s the exact difference between moderate and strict?
Christopher L. @Christopher_Leo
I hope this also brings a much stronger abuse/hatemail policy.
I have loved this site because most of us are genuine fashion lovers that are supportive of others, with the free sign up a lot of haters will make an account and be mean to other people, trust me it has happened to me A LOT. I stayed safe in here mostly because they couldn't come in. haha
And also it would be nice to know how much karma you need to not get swallowed by the new page. I already get swallowed up and idk haha I don't care about being lb famous, but it's always nice to know that someone viewed your look and it didn't just stay in the background. jw
The rest, well I guess there's nothing we can do to change it, xD
Changes are always ackward but like most things, time will tell.
But with all negativity aside, I can't wait to see the looks of the new members, I hope they bring something fresh to the table :D
Kel W.
I also have an account in chictopia.com, an open site for posting outfits and looks. I preferred LB ever since because of the 'privileged' feeling of just being part of the network itself. whereas chictopia seemed merely like Facebook that's intended for fashion, where you can post photos, add friends, add comments, and like others photos.
another thing is that, even before i joined both sites, i took the time to read about the difference between the two, and i've read that most people like LB better because of the quality of the photos posted, unlike in chictopia where anyone can post outfits, and anyone who has the TIME to make hundreds of comments, will automatically gain hundreds of points (a.k.a 'karma' in LB).
Right now i feel as though both sites are almost the same. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, though.. this is just a comparison, and an observation on the new system here in LB. :)
Yuri L.
There are many differences between LB, our community culture, and other sites that are (or try to be) similar. But rest assured, no one on LB gets karma just for making comments. Karma is only added to a user if his or her look gets hyped. No one who makes hundreds of comments will automatically gain hundreds of karma points.
Reese U. @reesumimi
I hope LB will still be the LB community from way back then. I wouldn't want to see it filled with people who are just in it for the hypes and not really posting for the sake of fashion.
Keefer W.
Hi, i just got onto Lookbook through the (now open) sign up application. I sincerely appreciate good fashion styles and looks. I've been around lookbook for a while but I haven't tried applying simply because I thought it would be too bothersome or tedious; I thought it was easier to favourite (or bookmark) every user that I wanted to follow but I think the 'fan' button is much more efficient. I think this new, open sign-up procedure allows for a more bigger audience and hence more exposure for new and old members. I truly believe this will work out for the best, not only for the exposure of the site lookbook but a greater style/fashion crazed community for everyone.
I know this might be hard for those who feel they are losing potential exposure because of the flood of new members but there's always another side to looking at the situation and perhaps with more members, there's that possibility that you'll get noticed even more than before. As for exclusivity, I feel that people who are new members still enjoy fashion and style despite the fact that they weren't members before and isn't that what's important all-together? A bigger community that enjoys and appreciates good style in their own perspectives? I don't know...I'm a new member, sorry if this offends anyone!
Yuri L.
Thanks for sharing and welcome to the site Keefer!
Mariale M. @makeuplocalypse
This USED to be the best site because it was exclusive, everyone looked up to it. Now it's just like all the others soon to be filled with useless posts and pictures
Syaz K.
I don't think the veteran members are over-reacting because they worked really hard to get where they are. but I'm not looking for a fight (I'm new too) or anything, its just that I think its really unfair for them, especially the ones still working really hard to get recognition.
Alexander U.
I feel like almost everything I wanted to say has been already said.
However what disappoints me most is the fact that the change hasn't been discussed until launching. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) I think it would be more fair if the members were given a chance to talk about it before so you/we could see if it's even a good idea .
We are just facing it now and trying to save what can be saved.
To be honest I'm quite worried about the future of LB now, but I hope it will work out.
Kaycee L.
You are so right!
I would've great if there had been a "what do you think of an open lookbook" log instead of a "hey everyone! no more invite codes necessary!" just sprung upon us.
Lulu B.
Indeed.
A warning would've been nice. :/
Avril .. @AvrilAwesome
I used to look up to lookbook.nu because it was exclusive and only people who were invited got in. and i finally got invited in a few months ago. finally feeling that i can have my looks critqued upon by true fashion pple. But now with the open concept, i feel like its special-ness is gone for me and as a new memeber who hardly gets noticed, its even harder to get noticed now. Because i agree with a user on above, the NEW page seems to be another HOT page now. So where do the pple who no rep/low rep go? they seem to just fade into the background.
However, i agree and am for the point about new members not being able to post in the forums yet. the only thing i've agreed on so far.
Holly L.
I love how this happens the day after i get my invite code :/
Nicola W.
I've been a member now for a couple of months, and, although my looks don't reach the "hot" page, they do recieve a few hypes. However, my most recent looks haven't recieved any at all (my style hasn't changed, I'm still me, I still have followers!) yet when I check out the "new" page, there is my look. As I haven't had time to build up a phenomenal reputation yet (which is what you appear to be asking of me LB!) are my looks not actually appearing on the "new" page?
The new rules are good and bad. LB is at it's best when it's exclusive, yet now new people with quirky and unique styles don't stand a chance. I find it difficult enough as it is, and I have an online fashion business developing. Technically, LB's new rules are verging on discriminative as I can only see the fashion elite getting a chance here..
Charles Olivier W.
I'm looking at your looks, and it's very good, it's true that you deserve more attention! and I agree with what you say...
Fernanda Lucila G.
This is exactly how I feel.
I've never reached the "hot" page, and I really don't mind. At least some people could see my looks on the new page, but now that even that is gone I feel like I don't stand a chance against those who've made their huge fan bases already.
And btw, you have some pretty good looks.
Kayleigh S.
'Currently it only takes one hype from a member with a "trusted" reputation to make the look visible. '
And when is a member someone with a "trusted" reputation?
With all the rest, I think it's fine, cause I disliked the New page. Think it will get better. Just hope that the new ones won't get pushed away to far!
Hannah T. @melbuhannah
I feel super bad.. I've been a member for a couple of months now, and it's only recently that my looks have been getting a lot of hype. It's such a great feeling to be in the hot page, and it's also thanks to my friends and fans from facebook twitter tumblr and etc. I agree that fashion should be something open to everyone but why take away their capability to hype without needing to be a member of lookbook?
a lot of people have been telling me that they're trying to hype me from facebook but can't and most of them don't want to be hassled to create an account just so they can hype looks that they like. It's very difficult to get noticed and I work really hard to vamp up my photos, it's hard though cause now I feel like my it won't be appreciated as much... ) :
VintageVirgin J. @msvintagevirgin
this is why lookbook should have invite only....

COMMENTS LIKE THESE! WTF! I am just flabbergasted!! What year is this?? I don't deserve this LB!!!!!! I hope this isn't what you wanted??
:(
Keefer W.
what he said was terrible and unwarranted but I don't think he's a new member...was he not here - through invite - a while ago already? correct me if i'm wrong...you don't deserve this and i'm sure this isn't what lookbook wanted
Yuri L.
Jessica,
Of course that isn't what we wanted. Racism, homophobia, discrimination etc. is not tolerated at all on the site. But we've had instances of this in the past, even when we were on an invite only system...and with our flagging and reporting system we have always been able to take swift and appropriate action. If you can let us know the profile of the user in question and we will make sure that they are banned.
Célèste B.
Thanks so much Yuri for taking the time to read our comments and address concerns. It means a lot to know that the communities input is important to you when making decisions that I'm sure are hard to make.
I'm still a little confused about how the new page will work. If an individual look from a "trusted" member gets one hype then in shows up on the page? But what exactly does it means to be trusted? Is it a certain number of average karma? I read your explanation of how it's going to work, but it seemed a little vague. Maybe all the kinks aren't worked out yet?
Tilly N.
I'm confizzled about how the new page works too...
So, we can only really get people to hype our looks if they see us post on face/tumblr/twitter? seeing as we can't post on the forums either? Like to be honest, I think I'm not the only one who would feel uncomfortable posting a look onto my facebook and twitter page and I don't have a tumblr. It seems a little unfair. I've never really complained about hype things etc, but don't really understand this. I'm not a new member and wow just to come back after a month and create a new account so much has changed after spending a year on here before! But I'm sure all the new changes will work out for the best and we'll see some new talent.

essentially, this site is about getting inspiration from what people upload, sharing ideas, etc, and i think opening lookbook is only encouraging this. the more the merrier, as some people are putting it. i honestly don't think people should be upset by this, it's not a popularity contest at the end of the day, it's about the looks.
(but seriously, this site can be a bit temperamental! haha. i've been trying for so long to edit my profile information and it just doesn't budge!)
Steph B.
i'm pretty sure it works now! :)

Thanks for the explanation! When I read all the twitter complaints and announcements it got me puzzled but thins answers everything!

What exactly is a "trusted" member? I still dont like it anyway

I heard rumors that lookbook is open to the public now? Is that true? /:

I was getting between 50 and 250 hype before and now I have 9 and it's been up for over a day! WTF lookbook! I think the karma thing is going to be a problem for me cause this all started the day lookbook opened up.
Paechynn E. @qwertop
I have the same problem too. So heartwrenching LOL.

I agree with the fact that older members who have established their karma rating or w.e deserve to have their looks on the galleries daily, but I am starting to get the idea that lookbook seems to be a fanbased and hypewhore type community. I see a lot of looks which for one should be flagged, and for two aren't that great to be honest- and they are being hyped beyond belief! People know people and hype eachother. Not fair, but that is the way it is. I have discovered some hidden jems- people who have awesome taste in fashion- and they are not getting any hype. As for blogs, it seems that everyone can have a fashion blog these days- it is a newest thing. I came across this site through a friend, and I was so happy to find that there actually was a site that specialized in people showing off how good they look in certain clothes- and how great their fashion sense was... haha, such an egotistical community there is here.
Anyways, the same type of look seems to be admired on this website- hipsters, and vintage looks. I've been trying to post good looks- with what I have, but I never get any love.... karma bullshit. lol. It really kills my ego!

I'm really glad that yuri is making the newbies WORK for their recognition. some people who get alot of hype actually did that for awhile! (i guess me!) so its refreshing that being part of the community is coming more into play rather than hype whoring or just simply postining a picture
Marissa L.
I'm pretty bummed, not going to lie. But I guess there's really nothing to do about it! I'm trusting Yuri is doing whats best for LB.
Roro S.
Hey guys don't be all elitist! Me and many other people have been waiting for this! Lookbook will still be special and won't be spammed because it's still very difficult to be on the hot page, you still have to earn it! Cheer up fashionistas :')
Syaz K.
I do feel for the people who has been part of the 'exclusive' LB uptill now; I've always been an avid follower ever since I found the site (which too, was pretty recent) but I've always been satisfied to just hype and comment through tumblr. Though I was pretty happy when LB accepted me, I still thought that 'earning yourself' an invite was a great system. kind of like proving yourself to the community, you know. but I guess this not appearing on NEW is similar in a way. Though, my two-cent on the 'trusted member' thing is because new members have made it hard for the veteran members to get a lot of hype, us new members will probably never see any light.
But I trust patience, commitment and loyalty to fashion as well to the site will award us someday.

I think some new rules should be included for posting looks, or for members, eg. In your report abuse section, add 'this person is under 13' for 'what'. Can we also please flag people for just wearing ridiculous outfits?! Of course I am kidding....maybe.
Rebecca M.
I'm really not sure if opening up is a good thing or not... I mean i've only joined since it opened, so a plus for me, but it does just mean there's SO MUCH being posted its hard to find the good stuff. The few lookbookers who're really well known get all their stuff shown still, but I get bored just seeing all the same people all the time, so its over to new with karma filter off to search... :P
Leah G.
is the swarm of new people making it longer to load looks? because it's taking me hours for my look to load... if it even loads at all. anyone else having this problem? ways to fix?
Jake F.
I really do hope that lookbook will be able to keep it's quality. At the end of the day, whether you want to admit it or not, a random person can stumble upon this website and now be a member in 5 minutes. It took me months to become a member. :(
Christina A.
This is outrageous. This makes me want to delete my lookbook and go find another fashion community that's exclusive. I hope they fix this 'open' nonsense soon.
