god, did you make this dress? it's so pretty! i'm really into finding out how to sew a dress and i can't find anything useful at all to learn.... could you give me a hint, please? :D
Cat Trager
yes i did! :) i took a class with AHPY in Minemes, Toulouse (France) over the summer. My teacher had the fabric so I bought it from her for almost 40 Euros (it's hard to find floral print like that, but if you want it, try Liberty of London or etsy). You can either buy a pattern or, if you make a custom one, make sure you use a french curve to draw any curves. When you're pinning, make sure the pins grab the smallest amount of fabric possible and are all straight, facing the same way, for smooth sewing. And, overcast ALL the pieces of the pattern around the edges before you sew any of them together! You'll get a clean and professional finish. If you're willing to spend extra time, making a mock-up dress out of muslim and draping it over a form can help you fix any fit issues. I remember that for the zipper in the back, we unzipped it, pinned it on, then loosely hand sewed it on with a huge stitch length/spacing to make sure it would stay perfectly in place while I sewed it. Hope all this helped at least a bit! :)
