Writing - Pesha Forest

I scaled a building.
From the perch of my commandeered balcony
I looked below and saw the future
I painted on the streets of the city
And I have tread these sidewalks so many times
That the cracks in the pavement began to show up on the palms of my hands
And create new lines
And I saw my heart slip through an open grate
I left it there for you to find
I left a note on the inside:
The same lines that are engraved in my hands
Are the same lines you'll find
An encoded map
If you read the keys you will open the lock
And find where I stand
A little girl in a woman's body
The mind of an 85 year old woman trapped inside me
And my heart is heavy with the ministry I must attest to
That our youth is one that is trying to be the intellectual
Coming off as pompous self proclaimed prophets
From their pulpits in the parkways
Seeking out their new fad religions
But Oh, They have it askew
They believe in the stories they have heard
From the professors of their generations past
Tid bits of lies they don't inspect
And they cleave to them as if they have any substance
They confess these lies as truth
And become willfully ignorant
Fearing to lose Faith in their assumptions
And I am a hopeless roamer
Collecting my lost souls and telling their stories
Waiting for you to discover me
X marks the spot on the hole in my chest
Waiting for you to give back my lost innocence
To be my partner in crime
A sort of Bonnie and Clyde for the redefining of
The lies our parents told us
The lies our tutors told us
The lies our books told us
The lies our peers preserve
We'll shoot out their preconceived notions
We'll steal their misconceptions
We'll leave a trail of death in our wake
Snuffing out the life of the lies taking hold of the virtuous
And leaving them starved for authenticity they thought they already had
In their peacock feathers they wore so proudly above their heads
So, I tell you
On your search to find me
Smear war paint on your face
Prepare for this war we must fight
Wear blue below for the tears I shed every night
Yellow above for the hope I know is so close in sight
And red for all the blood we'll shed
