Double breasted jackets haven’t been popular since the early 90s which is why it’s a difficult decision to choose this style of jacket when I’m deciding what to wear. Double breasted basically means a sports jacket with wide, overlapping front flaps, and 2 columns of buttons. There is only one way to wear it and that is buttoned up. You wouldn’t want to wear them unbuttoned because the overlapping flaps have a tendency to make your outfit look sloppy. You can find double breasted jackets in four or six button configuration, depending on the size of your torso. Shorter men tend to go for the four button styles because the six button coats overwhelm shorter torsos. Taller men fit the traditional six button styles nicely.
