Playing tribute to one of the most amazing fabrics: Lace.

I was always intriged by this fabric even when I was young. The meticulous detail is just a skill to behold. Though nowadays lace has become part of a woman's wardrobe its history would tell us it wasnt so.
Lace was used by clergy of the early Catholic Church as part of vestments in religious ceremonies, but did not come into widespread use until the 16th century.[1] The popularity of lace increased rapidly and the cottage industry of lace making spread throughout Europe to most European countries.
Traditionally, lace was used to make tablecloths and doilies and in both men's and women's clothing.

About the look: photographed by Cheka
I drew upon historical references and cultures to this look like: gothic fashion(using lace, victoriana, and black), Mask balls, imagery as seen in Chanel Spring summer 2010 ad campaign.

The real reason I wore this 'mourning' look was because I wanted to pay tribute to one of Cebu's most talented designers, Salvador Malto. His untimely passing was and still is a great loss for the industry.
I always have fond memories of Sal. Like every time I pay a visit to his atelier, he was always super accomodating. He has this exuberance which is so endearing. He was also one of the kindest designers I've met. He was also one of the few designers who inspired me,nurtured me to becoming who I am today.

Though I mourn his loss, instead of me feeling I wanted to celebrate his amazing life and express how grateful I am to have met him. For I know, even in the afterlife he will still be bringing joy to us all:) THIS IS FOR YOU SAL:)!!!!
