I was checking out the 3rd latest movie trailer for IMMORTALS the other day and I discovered that the movie was actually directed by THE amazing TARSEM SINGH!!!!! OMG!!!!! No wonder the trailer had such an amazing visual dialogue. So much style in every angle. For those who do not know Tarsem Singh is an acclaimed film director. His work is super stylish characterized by dynamic characters, fantastical cinematography, and dramatic costume. He is one of my film Gods. Seriously. His directorial style resonates into fashion too. The first time I saw his work in THE CELL starring Jennifer Lopez, I literally went gaga over the grandeur of the stunning imagery. Never mind that the film had a twisted and dark plotline I cant get enough of the stlish visuals. Super!!! His sophomore film THE FALL starring Lee Pace rivals that of the Cell with more diverse stylish characters. Speaking of which I just recently watch again.
Anyways the movie IMMORTALS is still in post production so I can't wait for it to be released worldwide. Even the cast is worth watching. Henry Cavill playing Theseus. I swear the scenes in the trailer looked like paintings. I swear this post is for you TARSEM!!!!!!!

I swear my film god Tarsem + Greek Mythology(my fave) + sexy Henry CAvill + gorgeous Freida Pinto + hunky Kellan Lutz = STYLE ORGASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The look:
I had this vintage silk tunic for almost 12 years I think gifted my dear good friend Helen Arevalo. Its pure silk and dyed in a very raw uneven stained color of rust, salmon, khaki and tan. Its pure, its clean, its perfection. So much so that adding accessories to it ruins the simplistic grandeur of this piece. I wanted to wear the tunic as a toga with its hem wide enough (circle cut patterned hem-hence so much fabric to work with) to tie as a draped sash. Amazing amazing amazing. Its the beauty of vintage clothes when you unearth them from your closet they still resonate loudly.

Inspired by Greek mythology and Tarsem's work I created a reinterpretation of the toga by pairing it with a not-so-common wool/straw hat mix that borders between a bowler, a straw fedora, and Minoan headpiece. I want to veer away from ancient costume by appropriating some modern elements. The play on ancient Greek motifs such as the GREEK KEY or MEANDER PATTERN as popularized by VERSACE in his designs and in his logo. I chose to adorn my brow with that detail.
