Ties frustrate me, they can only be used as ties or kinky blindfolds, kind of a waste, in my opinion, a great accessory and a nice finishing touch for an outfit, but scarves just make so much more sense to me. I can never find ties to match any outfits, anyway, unless I buy the entire thing in the same store. Scarves, on the other hand, are usually cheaper and can be used for a variety of things, much more useful than a tie.

Knotted this with a double knot to cut down the length a bit, a full windsor knot probably would've cut it down even more but probably would've been a bit bulkier looking, although less lopsided.

Besides, why not just skip the tie and do something that no one else (in my experience) is doing!? Points for originality.
