Nothing says “fun” like a self made costume. They are my absolute favorites.
I don’t like to walk around with a bought costume; they have no spirit, no story. What I really like is to think: “what do I want to be this year?” and “How can I do it?”
So I plan the whole thing, buy the materials, put it together, and once I wear the costume I fell so good! So good that, at the end of the night, I fell sad to take it off. I fell sad that it only had one night to live. But that’s a part of Halloween, you get to be something else for one night only.
All of this to introduce you to my hand made Harley Quinn costume!
Do you know her? The Batman series villain, the alter ego of Dr Harleen Quinzel, that feel in love with The Joker and decided to follow her heart to the point of absolute absurdness.
Why did I pick her? Because she is a passionate crazy girl, all is fun and pleasure and her world is a hilarious chaos!
What’s better to be for a day than a senseless villain with a passionate heart? Feeling powerful and full of hysterical energy!
I didn’t want to buy one of those mass-made sexy costumes so I made a plan:
For the top I used two similar shirts I bought at Pull and Bear. The red one I folded in half, in a way that able me to sew it to the black one, so I ended up with just one two-colored shirt.
For the bottom I thought about doing the same with a pair of jeans, but since I hadn’t any red ones, I decided to do it with two pairs of tights – one black, one red – and added a feminine touch with a black skirt and a red ribbon.
I bought to pairs of gloves, and used one back and one red, adding the ruffles in white, that I made out of white flannel – the same tissue I used to make the collar.
Then, the only thing left was the hat. I didn’t find a hat that I liked so I made one myself.
For the head I used a swimming cap that I covered with red and black flannel, in a way that covered both my head and neck.
Then the two pointy ends: I made a wire structure similar to a headband with two cones. Covered the two cones with tissue and stuffed them with cotton.
To finalize, I added some bells to the hat and collar, some diamond figures, put it all together with a simple black mask and a crazy gun and that’s it!
I was miss Harley Quinn for one night!
I hope you like my costume as much as I loved wearing it! =)
