In my AP English class our teacher taught us the origins of holidays on the calender and how we have changed them. And so she told us that Samhain was a Celtic harvest festival that Halloween originated from, and the idea of trick or treating came from it because the children would beg for money from neighbors to go to the festival or buy things from it, beggers! And she said that in the American culture we have just closely related whatever holidays we want, and therefore I just mixed together Halloween and the Day of the Dead. Haha!
