I always have a deep fascination with surfer style. Not in a reality based style but more like an ideal style of what a surfer should look like:) Theres a wetsuit but executed in a multi print jacket and leggings with a likewise printed boardshorts. And of course the perennial beanie to cap ioff the look. But surfer style aside, what drawn me to create this look was the exciting prints:) the multi prints that adorn the jacket and the shorts and all the rest excite me tremendously. The most amazing piece of this look would definitely be the jacket. Unassuming yet extremely beautiful, the work begs to be seen up close. The jacket is comprised of a numerous number of selvedge 'malong' fabrics. These are weaved ethnic fabrics done locally in our country. These fabrics were cut by hand and re assmebled in this multi tapestry of colors and shapes. One section of the jacket in the chest part shows a weaved texture but in fact is patched strips of selvedge. Incredible work put into it and it is a delight to wear. The shape of the jacket might be a wetsuit inspired jacket in my eyes but it also takes into context 50s structural couture jacket shapes from Balenciaga. You have to give it to Protacio who presents us with an amazing well thought off work. It is a modern hi fashion take on Filipiana (our traditional costume/wear). Playing with a surf theme, I styled it with an amazing t shirt graphic print done by Anjo. It is actually lungs and heart but made into a rose and vine cartoon.Just cool prints that jive with the whole look. The name of the look was inspired by a popular cartoon from Nickeledeon during 2004.
