I can’t wait for winter. Summer has the beach, the parties, the vibe and all the things that go with it, which I love, especially living across the beach and having always lived near it. But winter has the clothing. Leather, wool, layers and boots. So much more thought goes into creating winter pieces. A great winter coat will transcend seasons and trends, but a summer dress is often short lived.
Coming back from sourcing his next season’s fabrics in Italy, we caught up with Arthur Galan. The man’s got talent and an eye for quality. Unassuming with a strong sense of authority, his designs are a reflection of his traits and design ethos.
Impeccable tailoring, buttery soft leather and and various alpaca and goat hair vests in muted and organic tones fill his Chapel St. store in time for the onset of the new season.
The first thing to catch my eye was this sleek woolen jacket with leather sleeves. Perfectly cut and tailored, an ideal jacket that’s sharp but understated. The silk top in muted shades of olive and black pencil pants completed the look, and to top it off the dangerously high and thick platformed suede boots from Santini. Can’t last long in them but totally worth it for the moment of having height.
Jess was also onto mixed textures. Picking up the woolen double-breasted coat with leather sleeves and leather stitch detailing on the sleeves, it was the right mix of class and edge.
We also picked out another outfit, photos and post to follow. Arthur Galan will also be showing during the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival at the Paris Runway 1, Friday March 9. The festival will be huge this year, if you’re in Melbourne and haven’t yet bought tickets to see the best in Australian fashion you should get on it, purchase on premier.ticketek.com.au/Shows/Show.aspx?sh=LMFF12#.T0Z1h8zXGDU. And check out the Arthur Galan Collection on agclothing.com.
So LMFF is creeping and to add to my never ending workload I’ve got a en exciting giveaway for you Melbourne girls (or boys). Details to come tomorrow!
Furthermore, it looks like I’m dusting off the old sketch book and pencils and scrapping up on my Illustrator skills again because guess who’s designing a limited edition range of shoes and bags? And collaborating with another to design a limited range of tees? Details to follow very soon…
By the way what do you think of the extra studs? Ear was looking a bit bare ;)
