I guess working in fashion retail taught me to never stick to formulas when it comes to designing. One must continuously evolve and try new things otherwise you get stuck in the old. So what does that mean to me and this look? Well its always been my mantra to never say never even for the choices I make when I style my looks. A lot of you guys know me for vivid print on print looks, my love for neckpieces but also I try offbeat methods to dressing, which for me looks refreshing. Like for this look, I opted to take out the neckpiece and replace it with just a humble crossover tie. Though Im a very diehard maximalist, I embrace minimalism when the look calls for it. :) Even the colors is paired down to monochromatic olive.

One other important reason that I wanted the look to be paired down is the shirt Im wearing. In our country this detail embroidery is used on our national costume which is the 'Barong Tagalog' or simply called the 'Barong'. Its a lightweight shirt made of pineapple or jusi fibers locally hand weaved. Even the embroidery is all done by hand. When you know its that laborious and intricate to make, one should showcase it. But theres more to that. What is more interesting about this shirt is the story behind its creation. Melissa Dizon Ramsey, owner of Earith and the designer of this shirt told me that its actually made from a vintage Barong from the 50s. ITs very rare to find Barongs like this nowadays because of the embroidery technique used. And aside from that she recontextualized the 'Barong' and gave it a fresh, modern spin by piecing it with a t-shirt fabric then dyed it in an organic bath to give it this cool faded olive. So taking something special and creating something more special deserves a that photo on the right of my look:)
