THE PLAID SHIRT
Plaid shirts are a great starter pattern to get your feet wet if you’re primarily used to white oxford shirts. The great thing about a medium check pattern is that it’s as versatile as a white dress shirt, but with much more character. You can wear it under a business suit with a knit tie and instantly become the coolest most stylish guy in the office. Or for a more casual look, you can sport it under a sweater with a tie and jeans. This doesn’t just add texture to your outfit, but it also adds a layer of warmth — which you’re likely to need come January. For this kind of layering, you want a fine-gauge sweater with a semi-large neck that rests easily over your shirt. Stay away from thick sweaters, they’ll make you look bulky even if you’re not.
