Inspired by the white hot heat coming off of Alex Turner during the Arctic Monkeys‘ stint at the opening ceremony on I opted for a little vintage outfit today.Who knew a little bit of gel, some leather and a pair of drainpipes could do so much to a gent’s lustfactor? I don’t care if I’m old enough to be your nan – take me now!
I don’t expect throwing on a little 50s dress will have quite the same effect for me, but that’s not really the point. Sometimes it’s just nice to feel ‘pretty’. And IMHO, nothing does that for you better than a bit of vintage. Plus, the beauty of 40s/50s styles is that they accentuate your curves – or give you some where you ain’t got none.
The dress is from Topshop a few years ago (and hence not actually vintage) but its rockabilly feel means it will be hanging in my wardrobe for a good few years yet. The shoes are seconds, from Joey D in Edinburgh’s Broughton Street. I haven’t been in for a while (as I used to live next door and totally gorged myself on his reconstructed clothes and handbags) but there’s a great wee ‘shoe lounge’ in the back of the shop with cheap branded shoes and trainers. I used to find amazing Golas in there, with mad Chinese prints all over them. Must check in again sometime and I recommend you do too.
Off to see Batman this evening. Looking forward to t0 it – Christian Bale is an old flame of mine – in that I’ve fancied him since primary 5 when we watched Treasure Island at school. Hey, at least he’s a more age appropriate choice. Hmm. My chat’s been a bit leery today. Maybe I should get myself a boyfriend before I turn into a vile old lech/stalker.
