Tracey Chapman. You either get me or you don’t know who the hell I’m talking about so if you don’t, you have YouTube and can YouTube ‘Fast Car’ by Tracey Chapman.
This may just be a Zimbabwean thing to listen to Tracey Chapman get completely drunk. Sound ‘rhodey’ to something like that. Truth hurts, because it is, but it’s a guilty pleasure and it’s acceptable in my books. Ever since I was young, I grew up with this type of music. My parents loved Tracey Chapman because, well, who can’t.
Her lyrics are beyond simple poetry. She sings about life and living and traveling and surviving and struggling and just…everything that happens once in someone’s life. I definitely think this song she wrote was autobiographic (I hope that’s the correct word) because it connects with everyone. I’m so sorry for being so cliché lately. Believe me; I hate it as much as you do but anyways.
I’m so inspired by this song of her and not exactly sure why, it’s more of an aspiration than inspiration though OR a bit of both. I want to live what she’s singing about and half-heartedly I have – I’ve packed my bags and come to my grandparents…but she’s singing about starting a new life from scratch and I’m just on a small getaway.
Yes, it is very cheesy that I have given this title because there’s a car in my picture but you know, I don’t care – I’ve been listening to this song and I was inspired.
Seriously if you haven’t heard it please do yourself a favor and listen to it. I’m not the type of person who keeps silly things like musicians away so that I can boast about knowing them when others don’t (typical hipster kids), I like to share so that we can talk and understand a feeling of one-another’s.
