Hey! I have a question, how do you feel about vegans/ vegetarians wearing leather products? Is it weird that I reason it as ok to wear second hand/old leather shoes? >.<
Mayo M
hello Tania, thnx for opening that question, thats a very important one and i think it deserves a higher debate.
but in short - i think that's ok to wear second hand/old leather shoes as long as you are reducing it to minimum.
I know sometimes is hard to avoid wearing leather product, especially when it comes to shoes. I myself have one faux leather boots and the other pair of old doc martens, thrifted. Buying second-hand really means you are not involved into capitalistic fashion industry and you dont pay that industry to produce another leather garment - and kill another animal for that. buying thrifted/second handed also means youre paying a only small amount of money to a thrift store - that means to the people who work there. that way you support recycling and reusing, and fighting over shoppingholicism and sometimes grotesquely gross & crazy buying thing that are not needed at all. so i would say its ok to wear second hand leather shoes - as long as you try to reduce it to minimum.
i myself totally avoid wearing leather, and reduced to minimum wearing faux leather and any animal print (ex. leopard, zebra etc..)
why? because that material (even faux one) always represents an animal, a killed animal to be truth, and that way you are supporting and making that piece of clothes popular and wanted. leading again to another slaughter of animals for clothes, for the shitty leather jacket. :(
i would say go for second hand or faux leather in rare occasion, but never buy a real leather. Thats my opinion.
sorry for the long answer :)))

See thats exactly what I was thinking about my thrifted leather items, the money isn't going to go profit the making of new leather items and also its re-using something that might have ended up in a landfill.

But at the same time I only semi understand your view on faux fur and animal print items, because yes it would increase the demand for animal prints but not exactly the demand for killing more animals for this because people want the fake stuff. Because its cheaper and easier to take care of. Just like the demand of faux leather versus real leather.

Thats just my opinion though. It's kind of among the lines of vegans who won't eat something that was made on shared equipment.

Thank you for your response though! I was feeling like a bad vegan eater haha.

well, you sometimes cannot avoid it, but i say reduce it to minimum. why do we have to wear animal print in a world full of other, ethically acceptable materials.
thank you for opening a debate, i appreciate your opinion too! :)))))))))))
