I cannot think of any dress that I’ve owned since I started buying my own clothes that I’ve worn more than this Dahlia dress. To me, this dress has a world of sentiments attached to it: I’ve worn it to university exams, my first day as a psychology research assistant, my visit to the set of one of my favourite television programs (ABC’s Gruen Planet) and now to the Australian National Museum’s ‘Alexander the Great’ exhibition brought all the way over from the infamous State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Whilst the solid black shift dress sets a mature tone, the crisp peter pan collar establishes an air of innocence, via its associations persisting since the collar became standard fare for young girls’ dresses in the 1920s. Add to this the adorning flower appliqué stitched onto the collar, and Dahlia have created a fail-proof dress; perfect for just about any occasion.
