My inspiration for this costume came from Queen Elizabeth the 1st. The idea came to me during our history class plus from watching Beyonce's Bow Down/I Been On video. The colours are true to the type of thing QE wore with the oranges, browns and golds whereas the actual metal structure petticoat/hoop and miniature crown were taken from Beyonce. Every detail of the costume is handmade. Firstly, there's the metal strapping crown with glued on jewels, spray painted gold. The coat/dress, which was a second hand woman's suit was restructured with the gold underskirt added and the lace collar added as well. Also all the jewels on the coat were hand sewn as with the brown lace and brown velvet fabric. The bodysuit underneath was sewn to have whalebone looking structure with the top part spray painted gold. The waist had a necklace sewn in to bejewel it. The skirt part was also sewn on after. The metal petticoat/hoop thing was completely hand-made with metal strapping and gold spray paint. The staff was a broomstick spray painted with a candle holder flipped upside down and glued on top. The "ruffle collar" behind is made from sheer material, lace and bristol board. Even the boots had lace added and the toes completely bedazzled. It was tedious and well worth it because I'm SO happy with the results! I had so much fun with this modernish, Beyonce version of Queen Elizabeth and I hope you like it!
