I love making horns for my costumes and I've always wanted to try my hand at making a set of deer antlers, so I decided to go for it this year as a forest spirit!
The antlers are made on an armature built over almost the whole skull area of the wig to keep them in place. Even though they're very light, it's hard to keep them in position without a lot of hidden structures.
I hand painted or dyed almost every component of this costume, from the fur, to the flowers, to horns and hooves! The wig, too; it used to be barbie yellow! And of course, the makeup was a blast to do.
The only things I didn't make from scratch for this were the black latex gloves worn under the fur bracers, the base for the hooves, and the contact lenses. Most of the flowers were store bought, too, but some of them I also made so that they'd match!
All in all, a super fun costume to make and wear, though the horns made it hard to navigate the Halloween parties I went to. But it was fun to play a deer in headlights whenever anyone took a photo!
I hope you guys enjoy my look. :)
