We are all great walking contradictions. We come to embrace our paradoxes as we get older, recognising that the parts of ourselves that defy convention and expection are what make us unique. But it takes time to get there - I stumbled upon one of my old New Found Glory albums recently; listening to it brings back a lot of memories but it still also feels like me... like I haven't really changed that much in the past ten years. There will always be something about the driving, anthemic rhythm of punk and its more cheerful cousin, pop punk, that makes me want to sing at the top of my lungs and dance in my living room. And that is entirely at odds with the woman I appear to be; the tulle-skirt-wearing, high-heel-collecting writer with an endless array of lipstick shades. I've grown into the idea that my style doesn't have to match my soundtrack. I might be easier to understand if my music collection was made up of Beyonce and Britney albums. But I wouldn't be me.
