When I opened my window after I woke up this morning, I did not see anything but rain and grey clouds. Somewhat different than the weather conditions you would expect when it is mid-summer. However, I was not disappointed - note that I am a sunlover (or a beach bum; or a free spirit that wants to live in a beach house in Hawai or Bali after a while; it is just the label that you prefer) and therefore bad weather is not something I personally prefer. The reason for that? I am an optimist, I see the good in everything. Every scenario has its drawbacks and benefits, it is the trick to focus on the benefits and try to deal with the drawbacks. That is more a general thing instead of a specific mindset that you should use if the weather conditions are not your cup of tea, since I - obviously - am aware of the fact that something like bad weather is not a problem. Third world starvation, war, illness. Those are problems. Anyway, I looked at the dark sky and the first thing I thought was: Yayyy, it is Sunday and I am going to have such an amazing day today! Should I go having lunch and a couple of drinks in a beach club this afternoon? Do you think that is a weird thought, given the bad weather that morning? Personally, I do not think so. I even did not think of the rain that moment. Me being an optimist ASSUMED that the weather would turn out right, that the sun would come out within a couple of hours. And if not, that is fine with me too. I will think up something else to enjoy. And that is exactly what I meant by focussing on the benefits and dealing with the drawbacks of every situation. Always try to be flexible. If your preferred option does not work, stick to a plan B. Or a plan C. That is, never throw in the towel.
