SO IT SEEMS that this weekend I was exploring the labyrinthine upper realms (not really, I just wanted to say labyrinthine--but I was exploring the third floor) of my grandpa's house when I came across a closet I'd never seen before. The closet was filled with--drum roll please--CLOTHES. Oh yes. Even better, old clothes. So I immediately unzipped all the quilted clothes bags and pulled out everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Call it heaven. Vintage heaven. There were matching mint green dresses (my aunts are twins), an amazing yellow ochre-colored boatneck capsleeve sweater with glitter thread detail, a white blazer with rainbow pinstripes, and this gorgeous dress I'm attempting to model below. So obviously I was enamored of this dress and I threw it on over my clothes. I then proceeded to look behind every single door on the third floor in the search for a full length mirror.

It. Fit. Perfectly.

My grandpa said I could have it (he said he wasn't going to wear it) and he also said that it belonged to my grandma. Though she died when I was still a wee little one, I do remember though that my grandmother had a really positive, happy spirit and I remember watching her while she went through her closet. I remember that she was a lover of animals and children. I imagine she would also loved flowers and silky fabric and butterflies and dandelions. I love this dress because it is like the textile incarnation of her; it's light and springy with a subtle floral print but still refined and beautiful with a sheer top layer and cute little bow-ties. And I have to say, I love this silhouette. Although I did have to tuck up the front of the skirt to make it just above the knee (you know, again with the being-short-ness).

I accessorized my grandma's dress with a vintage bracelet I bought at my church's yard sale this weekend and my favorite shoes yada yada.
