PEOPLE hype a look NOT BECAUSE OF the OUTFIT

i've been noticing that people are hyping, NOT BECAUSE OF THE OUTFIT but because of who is posting it AND HOW THEY LOOK physically... like face and body like....

someone would post a look wearing a basic simple Tshirt and shorts, and it will get a lot of hype... but it made me think, it does mirror how it is in our society today, people are drawn into more attractive individuals, therefore making it easy for them to build their LB karma =)

how about what YOU think?

I totally agree with you. It's not really about looks, it's about 'looks'. Sometimes a look is just completely rubbish, yet the one who posted it gets tons of hypes for having a pretty face.

agree completely. before I joined I'd seen a few really individual, creative and unique looks (a great photo as well taken with an slr) that really stand out but they would only have 50-100 hypes...and then one of the popular lookbookers wearing a simple dress and heels that if not for the actual person would have barely got 30 hypes.

but I never hype people based on their physical appearance, whoever it was, someone new or very popular, I always hype the looks I like based on the actuall creativity of the look :)

yeah I'm actually quite hesitant to post a few looks I have..however they are colorful so :P love colour!! black is so boring. may as well drape a black sheet over yourself and call it artistic.

I am so sick of seeing the same damn unoriginal outfit on lookbook. A simple dress or high-waisted shorts and a tee. This doesn't inspire me. Anyone can wear that. It's what else you wear that should be here, or making those boring outfits AWESOME.

Also, adding JC Litas to an otherwise normal outfit doesn't make you fashionable.

not gonna lie, i tend to hype looks with basic outfits but nice photography without thinking much about it. i can understand how it frustrates people but for me lookbook's all about inspiration, not just fashion.

Well... I don´t know about the others.. I will tell MY personal taste and experience... My reasons for hyping someone... I think, if you post on Lookbook, you are proud of your look, you want to share your sense of fashion with other people, and maybe (just maybe) you want a feedback too...
I hype ALL my fans, and a lot of people too, because, like I said, if the person post their looks, it´s important for her, sometimes is not the beeeest look of the day, but, we don´t have a score here, is hype, or not hype, so, I take this is consideration. If this person have someone to support her since the beggining (like everyone here) I think this person can improove yourself too, and get more courage to make new things, try new outfits and styles...
When I send my first photo, I shot it alone, and I dont let anyone see me shooting with my Iphone and an app with timmer, I took my photos alone because im shy.... but... I receive my first hypes, and this gave me courage to try hardder, and go out, make photos on the street. etc.. But I have this first incentive, and this encourage me to make my best...
If I have a score (and not just the hype button) I can give a 10 for people who try hardder (with different looks and not just a tee and shorts) and with a nice background. and I will give a 5 for people with awesome looks but in a "not so cool place", and lower scores when it´s not so good.
I am a democratic lady hahaha, I really think if you take a pic and post here, you deserve a hype at least for your effort to post and for the courage too (because some people here are just cruel with their comments).
I hope im not annoying everyone writting a "bible" here!

I agree. This is one major reason I turned off my karma filter. I want to see the original looks and people I've never seen before, not just the beauty kings and queens of LB.

I mean, yes I look at photo quality, choice of location, and all that jazz, but I'm mad every time I see those t-shirt looks getting super hyped over looks by people who I think are much better.

But, at the end of the day, hypes aren't all about the best outfit and we know that. People use their hypes and comments to get noticed by other users. Hypes are like little advertisement bribes. C'est la vie~

i'm exactly the same way! whenever my boyfriend is around when i am on lookbook he will be like "you just hyped that & you would think that was ugly in person!" but i just feel like everyone deserves hypes, so that they have more of a chance of getting seen. so i hype people that seem like they are trying even if i don't think they will hype me back & even if they aren't wearing my favorite outfit. i hate people that hype you and then ask for hype from you then once you hype them they unhype you. i don't get that. hypes are free! if you are trying to let people see your style & get feedback on it then you deserve hype so that that can happen!

am i the only person who is hesitant to hype someone who writes the same messages on everyone's pictures? or those write write 'fantastic' 'amazing' 'cool' on pictures that break the looks, especially the most ridiculous ones which show a pair of knees or someone's baby? it shouldn't impact on their outfits at all and i look at their profile and hype if i find something i like but i somehow feel that people who are stupid enough to hype and heart pictures that display a selfie don't deserve hype somehow. i know it's mean and makes no sense but i think less of someone who constantly hypes and comments on how amazing a picture of someone's hair is. even a couple of the popular people do it and i can't help but think about what a dumb person i was considering fanning if they do that all the time. so far i've not fanned anyone who does that and i won't name names but it puts me off someone when i find they do that

Someone posted a baby? Lol...please link if you have it.

I think maybe some haven't bothered to read the rules? Until recently I assumed if you showcase sunglasses or a hat it is okay to post your face only because I saw others hyping.
But when I reread the rules it said only full body.

It can get confusing when people hype looks that aren't according to the rules.

already got deleted :P you will be surprised how many pictures of children that have been on here. as for the rules, most people don't read them. they skip over it when making an account because when some people are reminded of it, they say they didn't know or they forgot. many of them i think are genuine because it is easy to skim over the rules when you start. as for hyping them, it just confirms that some people on here are just plain stupid. some of the comments make me laugh. recently someone said 'fantastic picture!' to an anime picture and 'amazing!' on a picture of some blurry shirt. missed the point of the site completely but it doesn't stop some people from hyping and praising it like it's something off the hot page

How often not so good pictures get "amazing" also puzzles me. I rarely use amazing, instead I point out other features I like. Amazing is at least heart worthy.

it's like a stock phrase that gets copied and pasted without a thought. i suspect that this is the case. spamming requires no thought and very little brain power

Well I couldn't agree more, theres a reason they named it lookbook, even the creator weren't sure about the idea of fashion purely based on outfit would work or not

Yes of course and it's not really fair but the same thing for likes and such on other sites.

I do find it disappointing when I see some not particularly interesting looks get a lot of hype while I still see quality outfits with creativity and a sense of style too often get overlooked.

Though besides just attractive-ness of an individual the quality of the photograph/s is very important as well.

when i post a different background, especially outside, i get more hypes. so many people really do hype the whole aesthetic and for some reason, arty black and white photos get high hypes on here and i don't know why. i can't see the outfit properly in black and white so i don't hype those photos but for a lot of people, it doesn't matter and they are hyping the artiness of it instead of the outfit which is pointless

Totally agree, it's not only about looks, it's about your ability of presenting yourself, how do you use the background, light, do you have quality cam, what is the makeup and hair style etc. clothes are not enough even if it fits you and match together, you still need more to achieve
