We want Lookbook to be a diverse, fun, and inspiring place for you to share your style and build connections with like-minded people. Please take a few moments to read this set of guidelines designed to help you find success on Lookbook.

Building Your Audience and Protecting the Community

Building your audience is no easy task. From what we’ve learned over the years, the most effective way to do so is through genuine interactions.

Please do:

- Respect other members of the Lookbook community. Everyone on the site is a real person like you and me. Be nice :)
- Leave encouraging comments when you see something you like. A well-thought-out comment means a lot more to the recipient.
- Post non-rule breaking looks. The rules can be seen here.
- Tag items. Descriptive and accurate item tags make your look searchable. If your item has a brand, please include it in the “brand name” field of the item tag.
- Link the correct URLs in item tags. Please make sure they link to where the items are, so other members can find it.
- Write a thoughtful description. Context or a story adds depth to your post. Avoid simply telling people to visit your blog or including ads or promotional banners.
- Use appropriate hashtags in your look description. Hashtags put your looks into categories for others to find.
- Share your looks and profile outside of Lookbook. Referrals are one of the factors that build your reputation and exposure on Lookbook.

Please don’t:

- Spam
- Ask for fans and hypes through comments or messages.
- Post identical or almost identical comments or messages in large volumes.
- Include your social media usernames, blog url, or your name in the title of your looks.
- Use irrelevant hashtags in the description of your looks.

When you break the guidelines, you may lose your:

- Commenting privilege
- Fanning privilege
- Posting privilege
- in the most extreme cases, your account

Check back on our guidelines from time to time as they will be updated regularly.

It might also be a good idea to mention that posting multiple looks in quick succession could be considered spamming...

only if there is a posting limit like there used to be. i don't think it counts as spamming otherwise

Thanks. It's getting a bit annoying with new members posting look after look as if they have to get their whole wardrobe posted within 30 minutes.

Awesome guidelines! I really hope people will follow them. I've had too much bad experience of people spamming those same one word comment to everyone or just asking for hypes, so I was almost ready to give up on lookbook. I'm glad you're taking some actions making the site better, thank you! :3

great guidelines...sometimes it is hard avoiding saying similar things when one is commenting on a large amount of outfits, but I still think genuine comments mean a lot.

the "follow me!!!" "hype my latest look!!!" comments are soooo annoying! I usually just delete them, but I hope they will stop soon.

@mbcos: There are several reasons I guess...
Some members with many followers have been here for a few years already, so they had enough time to build up their fanbase. Quality pictures are very important too. If your photos are great you will automatically get more hypes. Being active here, hyping pictures, commenting if you like something are things you should do if you want people to check out your looks as well.
If you decided for one certain style (like grunge, gothic, lolita for example) I think you're more likely to get more followers too since people who like a few of your looks already know they gonna like the upcoming ones just as much. If everything is very mixed up they might just like one or two outfits but that's it. So no reason for them to fan you.
Basically, you just have to do all the things lookbook already mentioned above :) And! You have to be patient and just keep on doing what you're doing. The least of us are able to get hundreds of followers withing only a few days :)

@Cosmina M.

Quite a few of us would've liked to have 350-380 fans after only being here for 10 months. Looks like you're doing fine. Probably in about 2-3 years you'll be well into the four digit-five digit fan count.

So, don't worry about it. Just do what's recommended above.

I hope everyone reads it and learn how to use better lookbook...I would love to see in HOT more good lookbookers and less that only are popular cause of their spamming and copy paste comments... Wouldn't be nice to be hyped and commented by people who really love your look, your style, your photos...instead of people just searching to get more hypes? Hype only the looks you really like!! I think it's suspicious when someone looooooves some different outfits with different styles in just one hour...

Hi - I'm new, well, I've had an account for awhile, but am just about to start posting photos (guh). When I went to upload the first photo, it said something like "this is what I'm wearing today." Is this more of a "what I wore today" type thing? Or can I post past outfits as well? Thanks :-)

@Bettye R.

you can post past outfits if you like. think of it like a diary of outfits. as long is it follows the rules, you can post up a picture of what you wore last week or what you wore 5 years ago as long as you weren't younger than 13
