I use photoshop for my photos but i dont do much to it! I dont add any photo effects, that cold make ur photos look tacky! All i do is increase the contrast, increase the brightness, and thats it! If u dont increase the contrast then ur photos could look quite flat! But to add to all this, obviously, the camera you use will also play a part! I use a canon 5D and it's the main reason my photos look good, not because of how i edit my photos!

I agree with what Nün says, the better cameras really are what makes the photos look that much better. But I actually think my pics look okay and I don't use a great camera. I actually use an iPad with Retina display and then I use photoshop to change to tone of the lighting and add some blurring to the background. :)

The quality of your iPad's camera looks great! How do you add some blurring to the background?

Sorry to say but I've upgraded to a Nikon D5100 since my last 11 looks. So the quality on those is a bit higher. However to blur the background in photoshop here is what I do.

1) Open the image in photoshop.

2) Duplicate the image

3) Select the new layer and go to the filters tab

4) Select Blur; then select Gaussian Blur

5) Apply the filter

6) make sure the that the primary color for your color swatches is black

7) Select the brush tool

8) Make sure that the brush is soft and at 100% opacity and about 50% flow

9) paint in the focus of the picture with a medium sized brush, staying away from the edges

10) then with a smaller brush with a weaker opacity, paint in the edges

There are no. of effects while editing photos. Some people like to add colour, some like to change the design, some like to add new themes while they edit photos. Effects help to bring new development in present photos which you want to change or edit. You can use different shadows & brodline to change the backround. Just use the software for better result

Very little changes are done to my photos prior to posting. Auto levels, auto color correct, maybe a manual levels adjustment, if things didn't turn out right, then, if necessary, some slight shadow & highlight correction prior to the final crop and save.

I use Lightroom. There are many presets for Lightroom that makes photo editing easier. LR lets each photographer and retoucher have all their pictures in one place, organize, retouch and share them from any place they want. There are many presets for free)
