Jim D. Help

Your look is there. I hyped it for you, even. But since it's your first look, your karma isn't high enough for it to appear by default. You have to turn the karma filter OFF to see the raw feed of looks. Otherwise, you'll only see the people with high karma.

That's a tall order. Maybe if you mentioned where in Japan you were and what your interests are... ?

Jim D. What to Wear to...

There are many considerations and your question cannot be answered simply.

First of all, it depends on the type of production: theatre play, musical, opera, ballet, modern dance, etc.

Then, it depends on when the performance is being held: matinee or evening

Also, you must consider whether it's opening night, closing night, or something in between

What is the production? You'll be far more formal for Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" then you will to an off-Broadway production of "Rent." Likewise, an off-Broadway Disney musical production of "Lion King" will be far less formal than going to see "Les Miserables" on Broadway.

Finally, the location of the theatre house will have a big impact: purpose-built opera hall, theatre, concert hall, auditorium, etc... and the city: state/province/country capital? town? village? (I.e. I would wear a different outfit to La Scala then I would to the local university campus theatre house).

So given all the factors, realize that formality at theatre productions ranges WIDELY from casual, to black-tie formal. E.g. If I were to go to opening night of "La Traviata" by Verdi being performed at La Scala in Milan, I'd probably be wearing a full tuxedo, and even go as far as taking my white kid gloves and a walking stick, and my date would be wearing a formal, long evening gown with elegant jewelry.

On the other hand, if it were a matinee performance of Wagner's "Die Walküre" at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, I'd probably wear a smart jacket, tie, and my date would have a cocktail dress and some nice tights.

So again, a recap:

1. What kind of production is it?
2. Is it a matinee or evening performance?
3. Is it opening or closing night?
4. Is it in a major city / major venue / Broadway / off-Broadway?
5. What is the production itself? Who is the director, composer, creator?
