In the fall I'll be attending the School of Visual Arts as a photo major. It'll probably be super hard to find a job afterwards but eh, whatever. I don't mind being a bum for a while.

I'm currently majoring in Graphic Design at The Art Institute of California - San Francisco and LOVING every minute of it. Education is everything in the art industry.

I'm currently studying Fine Arts through my program which is Arts & Business. I'm also doing a minor in Speech Communication and a specialization in digital arts communication. With all the in mind, I'm hoping to work in Advertising cause this is where I'm most interested in in terms of graphics and design in general. :)
I did get accepted to an art school but I just couldn't see myself in a really strict art only kinda program so I opted to go to a school less known for it but with more variety.

Depending on your major the out look for jobs and the amount of money varies dramatically! I go to College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. It is known for automotive design but a lot of talented people in all areas emerge! I am studying graphic design/advertising design, kind of more commercial so more acceptable in my community and higher likelihood of getting a job. Going to art school was the best decision I've ever made IN MY LIFE, I don't regret it AT ALL, it's a magical experience it really is ; )

I'm currently grappling with the harsh reality that doing a painting major with a minor in French isn't going to give me many opportunities.

Though at least my school's career center seems to have really fucking intense connections, like holy shit one girl got an internship giving classified security briefs in DC to diplomats about to go to Europe and Africa.

If art didn't exist then life would be so mundane and dismal. I think that a lot of truly amazing art gets ignored whereas the crappy art gets most of the attention. Anyway, In the fall I will be a freshmen at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and I can't wait! I plan on majoring in Sculpture or illustration or maybe, but very unlikely, fashion design.

I go to UCLA for Fine Art. It's one of the top programs in the nation with a faculty that consists of Barbara Kruger, Mary Kelly, James Welling, Catherine Opie, Lari Pittman, Hirsh Perlman, Charles Ray and many more! Incredibly critical program. It won't teach you technical skills, but it isn't a design school, so that's not as important. BUT UCLA also has one of the top design programs as well; also highly conceptual.

I've been doing art all m life and in the fall I'm going to SUNY University at Buffalo for Fine Arts. I don't know what I'll do afterwards, but I know I can always be a teacher. You can't make a good career out of selling your art these days. Graphic designers get the most work.

My advice is to marry a man or woman who is a lawyer or a doctor, haha.

Well I do A level Art and I love it so so much. Despite it being very structured, I still get to do what I like and I like how your work grows, improves and develops- pretty fascinating and fun.
I was going to study fine art at university but I don't think it's the right choice for me. As much as I love art, for me studying fine art at uni is so risky as in terms of money (yes I know people want to do what they love, heck I would do art) but it's just a realistic perspective. I just want to be secure and then after I can take the plunge and be an artist. It was horrible coming to this realisation, especially as an art person came to my school exhibition and thought I had potential and would do really well in art :(. I think I will do an English Literature degree(as I love English too, and I think I'll miss studying geeek ahaa) degree but keep on painting and drawing on the side until I hopefully get my big break as an artist.

I guess if you wanna be an art teacher or graphic designer then that's great. I commend people doing art based degrees and I think it's great...just think about it and be 100% sure that that's all you want to do...especially when you can do something a bit more academic and do it on the side where you're more secure.

As I always say: if art's your calling, it will inevitably happen anyway...no matter what you're doing. Food for thought :).

This september I'm doing an Art Foundation diploma. It's good because it only lasts one year and you pretty much experiment with all kinds of mediums, from ceramics to textile design.

I hate academic subjects so this is the only option for me, unless I want to become a full time waitress and live a life of complaining OAPs whose tea is too hot and creepy men that give you £14 tips...
