It's not! It doesn't really rip your hair, or at least it didn't to mine. You just kind of twist your hair and then part that section and pull it up and keep doing that. I don't know, its kinda hard to explain without a visual i guess. >.<

I've only had mine for a bit over a month. >.<
I used the rip and twist method and i use a crochet hook to maintain them.
(which i need to do today...)
