Thanksgiving is one of the most down-to-earth holidays — a time to remember and reflect on the things that are most important — family, friends and those closest to us. This is the best time to express sentimentality, warmth and comfort by what we wear. It’s also the time where you may have to dress to impress, particularly when it comes to revealing your look to relatives who only see you once a year, joining another family for a formal dinner, attending a trendy Friendsgiving gathering, or meeting bae’s parents for the first time. Striking a balance between the two can become a hefty challenge (not to mention, watching the silhouette of that waistline as you hone in for seconds), but it can also be a wonderful opportunity to show off your best fall looks before winter descends upon us!

This season’s all about clean, elegant layering, flowing shirt dresses and boho-peasant style. Think sturdy vintage finds and suede everything — dresses, skirts, boots and all kinds of accessories — the same goes for denim and camel. Hints of mustard are popular as well, with whimsical touches of handkerchiefs and bowties on shirts, necks and bags. Other than angular lines, the preppy equestrian or polo look will be a hit, in addition to the occasional corduroy, off-the-shoulder top or basic fur. Booties and tights are a must for staying warm while in a dress or skirt. Swipe lips with a bold red or deep wine to wrap up the look.

"Obsessed with this dress for fall (mustard is a fall color must have)! I wore mine as a top, over ripped grey skinny jeans for a sizzlin' fall look" — Dileiny Rodriguez
"I decided to go with a 90's kid look with this striped dress from Urban Outfitters, paired with Free People suede boots for that late Autumn touch" — Tonya S.
"I absolutely love suede and scoured online shopping site She-In for this wave folk 70's style skirt, collaged denim pocket bag and 90's style booties and handkerchief for an alternative, feminine look." — Clara Campelo
"On this unusually hot Autumn day, I wore a lookalike suede dress from Romwe with cute laser-cut detailing and styled it with a denim jacket for a vintage-y look. I accessorized my red bag with a black and white scarf, and couldn't leave the house without my favorite watch from Kapten & Son." — Larisa Costea
"It's a cozy and warm fall day, the season for simple hairstyles, natural hair color and warm tones — also the most wonderful time of year to wear lipstick in a natural and easy way!" — Valeriya Sytnik
"I'm loving neutral shades, even in the colder months, and recently started wearing the beige faux fur gilet I bought from New Look last year. I love the mixing of textures and the lattice detailing on this Boohoo dress. The bag matches perfectly with the colors, and the pop of white of the dress makes it stand out. I don't think you can beat Autumn for styling up outfits. Nothing looks better than mixing of layers to create a look that makes it seem as though you've put more effort into it than you have!" — Katie Z.
"I'm so happy to be wearing my cashmere camel coat again! This one's my favorite, not only because it looks so chic but it's actually pretty warm. Camel tones look amazing with blue denim and basically any other color. I never get tired of camel." — Sylvie Mus
"Autumn is the perfect opportunity to change your wardrobe, and as you can see from my blog, I've started the season with bronzes. For this look, I tucked a cute giraffe-print shirt into a suede skirt and put on my favorite matching suede booties. The backpack I'm carrying houses pretty much everything I need on the go." — Rozalia Fashion
"When an article of clothing can transition through several seasons, you truly get your money's worth. I encourage you to take a look at your own closet and think of ways to rework existing pieces. I typically wear this summer denim dress with flip flops or wedge sandals, but once the temperature started dropping, I'll repurpose it for fall by wearing a crisp white shirt underneath and pairing the look with a cozy pair of boots." — Anne Dofelmier
"This red eights sweater from Sheinside is one of my favorite pieces of clothing. I channeled a preppy polo look by combining it with a jersey shirt underneath and a pair of skinny white jeans, as well as equestrian style boots and a Burberry scarf." — Ma Petite By Ana
"I am loving a warm, rusty color palette for fall and this cognac set of matching corduroy crop top and mini skirt is no exception. It feels like a modern-day interpretation of your favorite overalls from the 90’s. The mini skirt's button-down front and flared a-line silhouette makes it both playful and polished. I opted to dress it up with a white Rachel Zoe tie-neck blouse, round retro Ray Ban shades, and a pair of leather ankle booties. Lush, velvety corduroy is a fun alternative to denim and an easy way to embrace 70’s influences this season." — Sarah Styles Seattle
"When it comes to dressing, simplicity is one of the rules I always try to follow. This faux suede jacket is definitely one of the trendier items of the look, but everything else is pretty basic and wearable. These booties from Nina Shoes tied the whole look together. I usually don't go for matchy-matchy looks, but in this case, it felt right." — Pam Hetlinger
"The more I’m in the desert, the more I fall in love with it. Never did I imagine that I could comfortably wear a jacket and a romper in November. My boyfriend and I took a day trip out to the Valley of Fire, just an hour's drive outside of Las Vegas. It was incredible — looking as though we had left earth and stepped onto Mars. I couldn’t get enough of the pastel colors in the desert and I felt perfect wearing this suede jacket and floral romper in the middle of it all." — Tonya S.
Tonya S. pairs a simple, structured suede jacket over an Amish-style white blouse and a button-down denim skirt — a classic for this season and the perfect look for a modern Thanksgiving.
