I grew up learning that society many years ago saw everything in black and white. Its either you're right or wrong. Forward thinkers who questioned the norm were ostracized, criticized, or even excommunicated. It was difficult to live in those times. Fast forward to 2011 society might have learned to accept a middle ground for everything but we are a long way to creating a society free of social prejudice. But i believe we will get there. I dont know when but itll be remarkable.
I am grateful for the many who stood out of the box, who questioned everything and created a new way of thinking allowing society to be more accepting. These unsung heroes paved the way for the next generation of artists, visionaries, icons to enjoy more freedom to live, to create, to dream.
It is why I am inspired to get up each day and put on a different hat and relish fashion because life should be enjoyed the best way we can.
It is why Im probably into postmodernism too because I believe in grey areas, the middle ground of black and white where more fertile ideas are hidden:)
About the look:
COmbining cultures, references and clashing them literally together to create a new order. MAdras, arabic houndstooth patterns, moroccan prints, geometric shapes, slim silhouettes with volume details, where greys in the patterns emerge literally and figuratively. Even with the accessories (necklaces) I combined punk with ethnic influences and reclassified a fez hat cum pillbox 50s hat to be a geometric headpiece. New ideas, new look.
