" I encountered (...) theme in the art of İpek Duben during my recent trip to the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art. Duben’s triptych painting of empty dresses suggests the way clothing conceals and reveals a woman's identity in society (...) A woman is identifiable by how she dresses herself and by how she inhabits this clothing.
In an outfit eerily similar to the one Duben presents us with, I took to the streets of Milan. As a female in her early 20s, I am in a period of personal growth and I often use my clothing as a way to convey myself to the world. In a big city like Milan it’s easy to construct a new “me” every day. During fashion week, I dressed the part of a fashion editor with a pink midi skirt by Tibi, a classic white button down by J.Crew, and nude sculptural heels by Nicholas Kirkwood. As I finish up college and enter the work force, I have been thinking a lot about who I want to be and what job I want to have. Like so many other women, fashion gives me an outlet to explore different possible versions of who I could be."
