I know. I'm wearing flats. When you've all recovered from your collective heart attack, let me say that I understand your surprise. In fact, this would hardly be the first time that one of my fashion choices caught people completely off guard. There was one day in high school when I showed up wearing a sweatshirt and my classmates were genuinely concerned that I was severely ill - otherwise I would never have left the house dressed so casually. I admit, I sometimes paint myself into a tight corner, the way I limit my wardrobe to just a few colours and limit my shoe collection almost exclusively to heels. But it does allow me to be genuinely surprising every once in a while when I step outside my comfort zone. Flats definitely are outside of my comfort zone. While I appreciate that they are practical and, in some scenarios, practically a requirement - I knew better to pack any heels for our weekend in Whistler - I have never felt as confident at my actual height as I do when I have the illusion of being 5'6". I like to think that if you meet me in real life, my personality makes up for my lack of height... But in photos, I think I'll probably always gravitate towards heels. Still, it's important to try something different once in a while and honestly, if you have to wear flat sandals, they should be flat sandals with gold chain detailing, a la Chanel, don't you think?
