A "home" can be many things to one person, "home" is commonly a country, a state, a province, a city, a town, a house, your family. But we all have something that feels like "home" that is more personal and unique, it’s part of our individual identity. Yes, like you I also feel at "home" with loved ones in a place i know as well as the back of my hand. But I have something that makes me feel that same comfort, that same relief, another "home"; for me, it’s ice.
The Month of August marks 20 years of figure skating for me, and during those years i have traveled across the nation numerous times for competitions. The moment I leave for a destination competition I am nervous and remain so even when we arrive and get to our hotel. Then, the second I walk into a rink and see a sheet of ice I am "home". I still feel the same a rush of love to this day, this indescribable relationship with the ice that makes it my second "home" providing me with the same feeling of peace, comfort, and freedom.
Not a day goes by that I do not feel blessed to have the cold ice beneath my toes and the warmth of skating in my soul.
