Barely Boho

Cee F. - - Barely Boho

By the time this post goes live, I will be in New York City - and with any luck, on my way to get my first slice of Grimaldi's Pizza after dropping my suitcases off at the hotel. I haven't been to New York since I was in my late teens, and I had come down with a nasty case of bronchitis just before we left, so my memories of the trip that mom and I took to the city are a bit hazy; I know for sure I coughed all the way through a performance of On Golden Pond after we got caught in a sudden down pour on our way to the theatre and that we stayed in a beautifully modern hotel where I first fell in love with all white decor (although it has sadly has been utterly ruined with hideous green carpeting, among other things, by its new proprietors.) I survived mostly on pancakes, which I normally never eat, and Indian wraps called kati rolls that I really hope I can find again on this trip. I lost mom at The Met for hours, which is far more hilarious looking back on it than it was at the time. I experienced Forever 21 for the first time and was as horrified then as I am every time I walk into one of their stores now. (Online ordering has made my life much simpler.) I didn't fall in love with the city, the way some people do. But then again, I had already woken up in Paris one morning four years earlier and known that I was exactly where I was meant to be, so it was too late for New York and me by the time I made it there. Still, I'm relishing this trip as my chance to really get to know the city that I barely remember experiencing on my first visit - and, of course, to capture all of it on instagram! (What can I say? I'm addicted.) I feel like this outfit would have fit right in in NYC... but there was only so much room in my suitcase, so I had to make some tough choices. It was equally suitable for weekend brunch in Gastown; there's something about bucket bags and oversized hats that always feels a bit bohemian to me... at least, as bohemian as I'll ever be (which is to say, not very.)
