Sometimes, fashion dreams do come true. The Chanel 2.55 bag has been at the top of my wishlist since, well - since I've had a wishlist. But it's also been the item on my wishlist that seemed the most unattainable and, frankly, frivolous. Despite all of the evidence to suggest that Chanel handbags are actually a sound investment, since their value increases over time, the idea of making the significant initial investment - not on a car or a piece of property, but on a handbag - was one I simply couldn't bring myself to make. My bank account - and my banker dad - were in complete agreement. And so, I had resigned myself to the idea that, barring a secondhand shopping miracle, the kind that inspire editorials in fashion magazines, the Chanel 2.55 bag was out of my reach. I had moments of pining for it, I admit, but I accepted that unless I won the lottery (which would require remembering to buy a ticket, which I have done exactly once in my adult lift), there was no quilted Chanel handbag in my future. And then - oh, and then. It started with a Facebook message from a friend I hadn't spoken to for a long time. A series of emails, each one seemingly more improbably than the last, followed. And somehow, through an unlikely twist of fate, I found myself at a law office, writing a cheque to the former owner of a like-new Chanel 2.55 extra mini, complete with its authenticity cards, which I took home with me wrapped in three separate bags (to protect my precious new cargo, naturally.) My very own Chanel bag has been part of my wardrobe for a little over a month now, but my heart still skips a beat every time I see it sitting on the shelf in my closet - after so many near misses and shopping trips where I gave up at the last second, it's hard to believe this bag is really mine. But be prepared - now that it is mine, you're going to be seeing it all the time until I find a bag I'm more excited about... which I find it very hard to believe I ever will.
