I didn't wear jeans until I was eleven. My very specific taste in clothing, which apparently manifested itself almost as soon as I could talk, dictated that pants should be comfortable, and after one itchy or too snug pair, that was it - I swore off all denim. And my parents, unbelievably, indulged me - just like the indulged me when I wanted to sleep with my new shoes. I suppose it might be a bit of making up for lost time, because these days I probably have twenty pairs of jeans in the entire drawer of my dresser that I devote to denim, and the majority of them are from Mavi. My history with the brand dates back to high school, and a particular pair of fitted Mavi overalls that all the coolest girls in school seemed to own. They were way out of my baby-sitting money budget but I coveted them for the entire duration of twelfth grade. My forays into overall territory are pretty rare these days - I've worn one pair twice in the past two years, once with a t-shirt and once with an oxford shirt - but I still remember that pair vividly. They looked so good. And when I finally got my first pair of Mavis in university, I understood why; because they are that good. There's no brand of jeans that fits me quite like Mavis and it always seems so wonderfully serendipitous when I get the chance to style pieces from a brand I've loved for so long. Basic black Mavis are a wardrobe staple for me; I wear them with everything but, admittedly, mostly with black and grey.
