I have this habit of saying things like, Oh, I don't shop that much anymore and then, in the next breath, remembering a new pair of shoes or a skirt that I've had my eye on. The fact is, I don't think it's so much that I shop less as that I buy less - I am always on the hunt for something, but I am far less willing to settle for an almost perfect pieces to tide me over until I find "the one" than I was even a few years ago. That doesn't mean my wishlist is any less long, or that I spent any less time browsing online shops in search of the perfect version of everything on that list - it just means I tend to spend a bit longer finding those things. Case in point: the platform Raye sandals in this post. A few months ago, I spotted a model on the Aritzia website wearing the most perfect pair of platform sandals of all time. I haven't considered wearing platforms of any kind since I was eighteen and wore a beloved pair of platform clogs (which remain among my favourite shoes of all time) so often that the bottoms slowly wore down until there was hardly a platform left. Nothing, I was sure, could replace those platforms, so I didn't even try to. But I saw these platform sandals and fell head over heels in love. The hiccup? They were Celine (surprise, surprise - I do know what I like) and well out of my price range, particularly since I would only be able to wear them for about a quarter of the year. I spent two Saturdays browsing every local store that sells shoes, trying to find a suitable substitute at a more affordable price - no luck. The closest I came was with a pair from Aldo, but they turned out to be navy blue, a major disappointment. Out of luck locally, I decided that since I wanted this style of sandal so badly, I could suffer and wait for an online order to arrive. (Patience is not my strong suit.) Revolve is always my number one destination when it comes to online shopping - the shipping is lightning fast, and the quality of everything I've ever ordered has been impeccable. I admit that I wasn't totally sure about these Raye sandals - they looked pretty close to what I wanted, but not exactly. The problem was, nothing that was exactly what I wanted did exist, so I decided to take the plunge, and I am so glad I did. My love of platforms is going strong again; I've already worn these beauties all over the place, although since they're better quality, I'm pretty sure the platforms will still be intact by the end of the summer...! And speaking of shopping less, which I really did do in Europe, the one really exciting thing I did bring home is this beautiful APC bag. It's not quite a mini but definitely not full size, which I love - it fits my giant phone while still looking delicate. I had to search six different APC stores in Berlin and Paris to find it, but like I said, I'm not as willing to settle as I used to be, and good accessories are always worth the work you put into finding them, I think.
