I’m going to be honest – because I don’t know how not to be – and own up to the fact that I do all kinds of things for the sake of my blog that I would never have considered when I was just a regular person who didn’t photograph everything they wear. (To be entirely honest, it’s been so long since I was a regular person who didn’t photograph everything they wear that I’m not sure what I would do with all the time I spend taking photos and writing blog posts.) These photos were taken about five hours after we arrived in New York, before we went to the Banana Republic presentation. We had flown over night, so by the time I was posing in the Meatpacking District, I had slept for approximately three of the last twenty-seven hours. But I would never let a little thing like being tired stop me from taking advantage of a photo opportunity, especially in New York City, so I got dressed, we had brunch (and all the caffeine imaginable) and we took these photos before we headed backstage at Banana Republic. In retrospect, it all seems a bit silly, but at the time, getting these photos seemed to be of the utmost importance – jet lag does funny things to your thought process and, worse still, if you can stay awake, it also lets you convince yourself that you’re just fine, you can sleep some other time. And really, I was doing pretty well, until I suddenly wasn’t – the exhaustion hit me mid-way through the Banana Republic presentation and I was sure I couldn’t stand in heels for one second longer. Much to my chagrin, I wound up finding a quiet corner to quickly change into my emergency flats – I hated doing it, but once I had done it, I watched at least three other girls sneak into that corner to do the same thing! Apparently I’m a trendsetter, but definitely not in the traditional sense…! Being in flat shoes was a bit of a relief, but it was still incredibly hot and humid out and, admittedly, the rest of the day was a bit of a fiasco – sometimes, I need to take a lesson from my normal person self and just relax but, well, I guess I’ll have to do that next time I’m at Fashion Week.
