Singular Silhouettes

Cee F. - - Singular Silhouettes

There is a fascinating geometry to clothing, one that I find far more interesting than I found any geometry that was taught in my high school math class. The shapes that fabrics can take, the way they layer over one another, and the way they move with our bodies are things I had never given much consideration until recently, when I put on my culottes for the first time in six months (having left them hanging, neglected, in my closet since we got back from NYFW) and realized just how different a particular top can look with bottoms of a different shape. Sometimes, a little unexpected nudge is all you need to consider the items in your wardrobe in a different way. Now, I’m imagining wearing my silk pyjamas with a coat and stilettos; I have visions of flared jeans paired with an oversized coat and bag that exaggerate the heavy, structural look, and I can’t get enough of layering long tops over longer skirts. Even a month ago, I would never have dreamed of pairing a top that hits at mid-thigh with a skirt that extends to mid-calf, but I love the result, which feels like a sneaky way of getting away with pyjama dressing while no one around you is any the wiser about how comfortable you really are…!
