#dtwtakesnewyork - SOHO, NEW YORK
Can we talk about #soho please? We always only stumbled into these chic tar roads by chance, after hours or when meeting up with friends at some or other cocktail bar. The Little Italy day however, you know the day that we found ourselves trapped in the maze between the bordering intersection of #littleitaly and #chinatown, spat us out right onto the streets of Soho and we couldn’t have been more thankful. I mean, the energy, the fire escaped loft apartment blocks, the streetstyle, the friendly faces, the colour and culture of this neighbourhood is just so delicious guys, I want to drink it all up. All day, everyday. Can we do that please?
We wanted to do some shopping as we would be leaving soon so Soho seemed a pretty solid way to go. My Gigi-inspired Mango denims or #skirtjean as the label indicates would never fly back home. These SA streets are so backwards, eish. So Soho just proved its street cred and let me let my freak flag fly. I’ve been eyeing this #denim moment since #gigi donned this alongside Karl Lagerfeld and effortlessly imprinted on my soul so I got me a pair, from #zara no less and rocked the mess out of it. Cute little bell-sleeved jersey and #metallic #silver booties accentuated the edge.
These days denim is a damn exciting place, it would seem that this staple is in almost every experimental flask in the fashion industry. From frayed to Frankenstein two-tones, Boyfriend to bell bottoms, colourful to coated, embroidered and embellished and who knows what else. Today, this twilled textile is all about interesting finishes and unconventional cuts. Sign me up for the deconstruction of denim, front and center. This particular styling trick is just so cool to me, since I generally feel uncomfortable in just a skirt, sticking #jeans to it just returns that boyish charm that I never leave the house without. I took a risk, and you know what I pulled it off. Cool and casual, offbeat and effortless with just a smidge of audacity.
