Everything Is Peachy

Eliza Romero - Forever 21 Peach One Shouldered Bodysuit, Urban Outfitters Teal Metallic Running Shorts - Everything Is Peachy

Everyone has misconceptions, especially when it comes to style bloggers and the fashion industry. Here are the 5 biggest myths:

1. You get tons of free clothing as a style blogger.

Not really.....some of the clothing I model in my outfit posts is sponsored but the vast majority of it is from my own closet. When the clothing is sponsored, brands will give me a credit or promo code to use on their website and then I pick out the pieces I want. If you've ever wondered why I'll sometimes go a few weeks between outfit posts, it's because I haven't been shopping in a while!

The exception is super bloggers like Aimee Song of the popular blog, Song of Style, with her 4.6 million followers and proven track record of collaborations with brands like Dolce and Gabbana, Rebecca Minkhoff and Dior. When I say proven track record, that means that if she posts a handbag by Rebecca Minkhoff, that bag will sell out completely thanks to her endorsement. Bloggers like her are among the "OG" bloggers who were doing it long before it became an entire industry.

2. The fashion photography industry is dying.

Not at all. While the industry is more saturated now because of the proliferation of digital cameras and social media, it is not crowded with more talent, just more photographers. Many companies, magazines, websites and feature sites still need reliably good photography and take my word for it, high quality, strong creative talent coupled with the solid understanding of light is still hard to come by. So if it's your dream to become a fashion photographer, by all means, keep working at it because it will remain a viable career option for years to come. (Lone Wolf Magazine)

3. Photoshop is everywhere.

This one is a hard truth. After the Dove Evolution commercial, everyone wants to believe that nothing we see in the media is real. People love to believe that models are not as beautiful in real life as they are in their photos. While they may not have a team of makeup artists, hairstylists and wardrobe stylists following them around on a daily basis, what you see in the photos once they are glammed up really is them. Very few brands will want to hire a model that requires a ton of photoshop in post-production. I don't want to book a model that requires all of that. It takes too much time, it's expensive and mostly, nobody wants to do it. Celebrities are different. Celebrities are not models. Celebrities look like normal people but the entertainment industry doesn't want you to know that. They get photoshopped A TON. (Lone Wolf Magazine)

4. The fashion and style blogging industries are filled with catty bitches.

Both industries are filled with more than their fair share of problems but don't automatically stereotype someone just because they happen to work in one of them. I've been a part of both fields for a few years now and I've made some amazing friends and have found it to be an amazingly supportive and accepting community.

5. Blogging is easy.

False, false, false! I could write an entire blog post about this very topic. There is nothing easy about running a blog. The time it takes to conceptualize, produce, coordinate, shoot, edit, write, promote and maintain all your business relationships is a full time job. Yes, you can make your own hours but it's a lot of hours. When you're a blogger, you're a creative entrepreneur. It's a roller coaster everyday. Despite that, being your own boss is great and I love every minute of it.
