Everyone seems to care about numbers these days: how many likes did this get? How many followers do I have? How many new followers did I get? How many does she have?
And it doesn’t stop on social media: How much money do I have? How many friends do I have? How many people has she/he slept with? How many places have they visited?
It doesn’t stop. We compare ourselves in weird quantity all the time. And I’m not devoid of this trap – I did say ‘we.’
Maybe it’s time we shift our perspective: Do I have any relationships with those who ‘follow’ me? Are new followers like minded people I can learn from? She has that many, that’s so great for her!
And in life too: Do I do good things with the money I have? Are my friend loyal and true? Am I? Whether she/he has slept with 40 or 1, can they love me and care for me? Does each place I visit bring me joy and do I fully take it in? Even if it’s only a field of flowers five minutes from my house?
I’m working on this. It’s not easy. It really isn’t. It takes conscious daily focus.
