With this look I wanted to dispel a myth that wants the sequins to be worn only in the evening or on special occasions: in reality, they are the best ally to illuminate an anonymous outfit or give a fun and trendy touch to the "everyday" look - just know how to dose and arm yourself with a nice toasty and good taste!
FIRST RULE: TONE IT DOWN
I love sequins very much combined with pieces typically associated with the male wardrobe, such as a blazer, a tailored trousers, a bomber jacket or a Prince of Wales print: it creates a fun and irreverent contrast to which it is impossible to resist! For a more feminine look, however, I find that there is nothing more beautiful than a sequin longuette with matching top and a jacket resting on the shoulders!
THE RIGHT COLOR
To avoid the "disco" effect, just choose sequins garments in not too bright colors and break them with basic items in neutral colors, as I did: a cream-colored sweater, a classic cut coat, retro shoes and minimal accessories dampen the impact of the gold trousers, making it very casual.
If the sequins are colored, use the ton sur ton to make them more wearable, or mix them with sportswear such as sneakers, sweatshirts or tank tops (as seen at the Monse show) to give it a fresher and faster touch.
Skirts that are too short, bright colors and mix with other shimmering fabrics, which immediately makes it Studio 54.
The garment in sequins must be the centerpiece of your look, and everything else you wear must frame it and rotate around it harmoniously.
If you just can not wear a shiny top by day but still want to follow the trend, just a detail like an embroidery on the sweater or jeans, or try with the accessories: a sequined clutch or sneaker will speak for you! Le freak, c'est chic!
