FINALLY. A new outfit post for y’all. It’s been a rough month for me. First, it was like -40°C every single day in December and January and then as if that wasn’t bad enough, I decided to get my wisdom teeth out. I had been absolutely dreading getting my wisdom teeth removed but the clock was ticking and so I booked the appointment and just did it. I was out of commission for a whole week and thus, the outfit posts on ze blog suffered because of it. But I’m back. Bigger (swollen) and better than ever.
I am a big turtleneck fan. That’s really all I tend to wear in the winter. They keep my neck warm and I can dress them up or down for work or play. We love a versatile piece here on ze blog. This turtleneck is one of my favorites. It’s from H&M and it was under $20 if I’m remembering correctly. I love the zebra print because I’m trying (and barely succeeding) to move away from my beloved cheetah print. It’s an extremely thin poly/cotton blend so it’s the perfect layering piece. It looks great under jackets or blazers or sweater. The possibilities are truly endless.
On this day I paired the turtleneck with this suede moto jacket and to be honest, I froze. -5°C seemed so much warmer than the -40°C us Edmontonians had been experiencing, but that 35 degree difference still didn’t warrant me wearing just a suede jacket in the middle of winter. But don’t worry, I have since returned to my regular parka and Uggs. This suede jacket won’t be coming out again until spring unfortunately. And when will that be? Who knows. The weather in Edmonton really keeps us guessing.
And now, let’s get to the highlight of this post. These boots. I am in love with these boots. If you have been following along on the trilogy of black boots on ze blog, you would know that I have been searching for the perfect third pair of black boots in my life. I have my beloved Old Navy boots (see here) that are threatening to fall apart any day, the Frank and Oak boots that I bought to replace the aforementioned Old Navy boots and now these boots to complete my collection. I wear a lot of cropped dress pants to work but the problem with wearing boots with those pants is that my ankles often peek out and show in between where the boot hits and where the hem of the pants hit. I needed a pair of boots with a taller shaft but those are surprsingly hard to find, especially ones with not a high heel. I had been searching for months and I couldn’t find anything I liked. But you know how when you go shopping with a purpose in mind, you acn never find what you’re looking for? And then when you go shopping just for fun or not wanting to buy anything, you find everything you need? That’s exactly what happened. I popped into a local boutique in Edmonton (Who Cares in Mactaggart) and they were having a 70% off sale. I immediately stooped these boots and they had ONE size left which just happened to be my size. It was fate! The brand is Sol Sana and they are a leather boot with a tall shaft that hits a couple inches below my calf. The heel height isn’t too high either and they are insanely comfortable. Just the perfect work boot really.
