I'll be wearing Medusa a lot these coming days as we approach International Women's Day! Which I also realized is within Women's History Month. My favorite jewelry company - Grand Tour Collection out of Rome, Italy - has released a new pendant in support of charities working with victims of domestic violence. They've chosen Medusa as their figurehead, and honestly, I couldn't think of a better representation of a woman who has suffered. Medusa has been on my mind again ever since Luciano Garbati's statue made the rounds on social media - one I hope to see in person sometime, hopefully when I can get back to NYC. I always thought it was wrong that Medusa was punished when she was the victim of rape, being turned from a beautiful priestess to a snake-haired gorgon.
So, here I'm wearing two of my favorite depictions of Medusa - one classical, all my jewelry features her stony stare from GTC - and one modern, the t-shirt from artist Keri Newton.
