Sad music when you're sad? Or happy music?

I know when I'm feeling particularly low, happy and upbeat music just doesn't seem to make sense (or just makes me feel even shittier for being so grumpy during such a cute song). I usually listen to more solemn accoustic songs or other sad quiet tunes when I'm down - which a lot of people seem to think makes things worse.
I tend to listen to bittersweet Keane songs or maybe some quiet coldplay. Fun and silly or electric songs like from Passion Pit or Mika just don't seem to work for me when I'm down.

What do you guys listen to when you've had a crappy day or are sobbing your eyes out for one reason or another?

If I'm feeling down, I usually listen to The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra

Sad music all the way. I guess it's kinda masochistic but happy music just annoys the hell out of me when I'm sad.
One of my favorite songs when I'm sad is Explosions In The Sky - Your Hand In Mine. It's so incredibly heartbreaking.

I listen to slow sad songs then move on to accoustic then move on to Goo Goo Dolls which usually cheers me up :)

Hm I'll have to try that song, I don't think I've ever heard it. I know what you mean though - it's pretty masochistic but I just can't do anything too upbeat either.

I guess I am the opposite of everyone...I listen to happy upbeat songs to get me out of the phunk and it seems to help a lot, or I will stick to the weeknd if I feel super low then switch over to happy stuff
